Mix tires on axels
Just thinking! To prevent tire failure on a rear axel tire due to a nose up stance( yes , all possible adjustment done except frame build up) has anyone changed the rear axel tires for a higher rated tire to ease tire worries. That is now have D rated-60# on front and will change for same brand E rated-80# on rear. Everything I find on tire mixing only refer to tires on same axel ; but on tandem not so much? Will the different tire pressures cause suspension problems or just put the E's all around ? Still have a small weight bias on the rears ,but a higher margin over the D's. Yes, the rims can handle the80#.

They always recommend replacing both tires on the same side if you need to replace one, so why not change all 4?

I was thinking I would change all 4 as well. Since the rear set will be taking more abuse, perhaps just rotate them front to rear once a season? (depending on your usage of course)

I'd replace all 5. With two different sized tires, are you going to carry two spares as well? With 5 the same, your spare can go to any position.

In my opinion, you will want to keep an eye on the rear spring packs. They may collapse. Especially, if you change to larger tires. Those 2 tires on the rear will be carrying even more weight! The priority would be to get that trailer level.
Just my opinion and I could be all wrong!

Have you had the trailer weighed to see what each tire load is?

Hello, Not yet... still in winter storage. I will throw out some numbers from what I know, the 27.5 bhs comes with two 4400# axels (8800# max) for a trailer rated at Gvwr of 9900# Short by 1100# from Jayco . Fitted with ST225/75r15 load rated D (2540#x4=10160 -9900 margin of 260#). The load rated E tires (2800x4=11200-9900=1300# margin). I know that they calculate a weight transfer to TV but Jayco could have at least used a 5000# axel ! Plus there is no room to upgrade to 16' tires, this the best I can do without rebuilding the trailer.

There's no weight transfer on a 5th wheel and I highly doubt any MFG figures weight transfer when designing a trailer.
Your 27.5BHS only weighs 7195lbs dry with a pin of 1340lbs. I highly doubt you'll load 2755lbs of stuff in it. Even if you load 2000lbs that puts you at 9195lbs and you should have a pin around 1800-2000lbs. Minus the 1800 from say 9200lbs and you only have 7400lbs on the axles. With 4400lb axles you are fine. You have a cushion of 700lbs per axle. Even D rated tires give you plenty of cushion. You won't get 5200lb axles until you get into more robust built 5th wheels.
