Stair vent

Is there a more efficient way to manage the heat that floods from the basement into the coach from the vent under the stairs? I'm sure the function is to keep the basement cooler with less humidity trapped but it's a bit much in the afternoon in the Florida Keys.

You could get a dish towel and some Velcro strips to make something removable

I emailed Jayco directly regarding this. Here is their reply:

"Pertaining to the Washer and Dryer yes there should be a sticker to let dealership technicians know where to drill an exhaust hole. However, with the newness of your unit I cannot assist you in pinpointing this location. The W/D prep is for dealers to do this work for customers. If you were to do this yourself and happen to damage the structural integrity to the sidewall and it fails we would not be able to cover the warranty for that said wall as the work preformed was not done by a Jayco technician. This is setup up to protect both the customer and Jayco."

I also contacted my dealer's service department. They actually said, there is no sticker.

Since I have no idea where to cut the hole for the vent, and the threat of warranty non-coverage for that wall should I install myself, I guess I will have the dealer install the vent for me. I believe I'll do the rest of the W/D install to save some money. ($129/hr labor at my dealer).

I'll post an update once that's done.

I'm thinking about something like that. I have already cut and installed foam insulation board into eat of my heater vents in the floor. To reduce warm air coming up from beneath the camper and to stop debris from getting into the vents. But know I'm wondering if by doing that I have hindered the HVAC because the AC is pushing air in, but I can't tell where it's going out. Other than the small intakes in the ceiling above the kitchen.

Go back to post #127 in this thread. You will see where others have ordered and installed vents with controllable louvers as a means of managing air flows. This mod is still on my "to do" list....

You might try unscrewing the wood panels in that closet. That should reveal where the wall framing members are. Match that up with the vent location on the dryer itself, and make your cut! That's likely what they are going to do at the dealership, anyway...

Just ordered the bug-screens that I needed for the water heater, furnace, and fridge vents. Had a hard time finding the 27.5" vents for the fridge, but finally found Camco RS-700's that are the correct length. Amazon Prime says that they will be here in two days!

Looking forward to putting much of these ideas to work here in a couple weeks' time as we take delivery of our new Jayco 377! Looking forward to adding some ideas too once I get to turn some wrenches on her! As mentioned previously though, or near enough, all the great ideas will have come from my wife... Just ask her! LOL

I actually just threw insulation board beneath. Has a great seal. I think I'm just gonna give in and take that vent down beneath the stairs and fit insulation board. Then monitor the equipment in that void monthly to see if it is being effected.

Fire_instructor can you share the product names for those screens. I haven't had time to research those as I am just getting settled into the camper this week. Please, and thank you Sir.

The vent is the cold air return for the furnace

Klassic. Excellent. Thank you. I am going to board that thing up in the morning then. Seeing that I will not be using the heat ANYtime soon. Also, today I was Using the outside cook area and when that area is open there is apparently no separation from the backside of that area (wall with the back of fridge) and the inside. I could see daylight clear as.... Day (pun). Literally had no separation from inside and outside. AC was screaming and temp and humidity darn near identical to outside until I closed it off.

That seams a little dumb. I guess they figure everything is closed up if you're using the heat.
The vent is needed because of the furnace placement. In some rigs the furnace is under the smaller RV style fridge and the cold air vent is right there, making it very noisy.
With the furnace placed where it in in our rigs makes it quieter but I would say lacking in efficiency when hatches are open.

I never would have thought it was affecting your AC that much.
Report back if you can get the inside even cooler after you block it off.

They are all Camco products, available on Amazon:

Camco 42153 RS-700 refregerator screens (need two sets for Norcold slide mounted fridge)
Camco 42144 FUR-500 furnace vent screen
Camco 42145 WH-500 water heater screen

The only thing better than a simple mod is a COMPLETED simple mod! The Camco bug covers arrived from Amazon today, so I couldn't STAND seeing the box just sitting here, so I installed them this evening. They only give you two tie-wraps per 27" strip on the fridge bug covers. Fortunately, I had a package of the same size tie-wraps in my shop, so I used five per strip! Easy mod. All completed in less than 45 minutes.

The say that they are to prevent mud-daubers from moving in. We don't get too much mud-dauber activity, but around here, there are NASTY yellow-jackets that LOVE locations like the inside of fridge vents or water heater vents to build nests...

Nice job Instructor.
How does the screen on the furnace stay on?
I have mud daubers and wasps like crazy here.
They never attacked my SOB before, but I'm keeping an eye on this one.
First sign of infestation and a screen is going on.

Mine was designed to be held on by two little spring clips. They give you a simple tool with the kit to install the cover. In actuality, the round cover was a snug fit over square vent, and it "snapped" on. I used the spring clips, anyway, but I don't think that it could easily come off, just with the snapping effect....

Anyone swapped out the outside shower for the kind that has the quick connect coiled hose? Seems like it's the same size faucet.

klassic - your discharge comes off of the face of the faucet, rather than the top. Did you change-out the faucet?
