Had something similar happen, door has popped open and caught the edge of our kitchen (schwintek style) slide. It bent the hinge and actually stopped the slide, fortunate thats all that happened.

Our trailer is a bit of a pain, there is no way to get thru the unit with both slides in due to the island short of climbing on the dinette with the slide in, which is not advised, or walking around and going into the bathroom entrance. I now try to check the front sides then slide the great slide out just enough to get by it and check the back sides before sliding out, and purposely do not leave anything on the back side to minimize the risk something gets caught.

We almost always carry a 5-gal water cooler bottle along for drinking water of known source and quality. One day DW was running the slide out and that bottle had shifted from its travel storage spot and in behind the slide. DW was putting the slide out while I was outside; I heard a "clump" sound and the slide stopped, so naturally I ran inside to see what had happened. A piece of trim popped loose, no big deal. I counseled DW to walk over there and check before she runs the slide out, she says "okay". Fast-forward a couple trips and it happens again!! Only this time the damage is worse. Still basically cosmetic though (fixed it with a brad nailer). So I put a sticker over the switch to remind her to check for clearance before deploying the slide, and we don't store our water in that spot any more. I threatened to replace the OEM switch with one of those that has a red safety cover to remind her, but that hasn't been necessary ... yet.

It happens, live and learn.
