Angry My new Jayco and adventure

Tonight we cooked our first meal...

1. 2 small pork chops, entire 5iver filled with smoke, fast. I head to bathroom to turn on vent...vent yes, fan no. In fact there are no ceiling vent fans at all...can others confirm this for Eagle HT?

2. We eat stove top worked great.

3. Time to clean up, 2 plates, forks, glasses. Water turned on and then backs up in sink. All stop and drain gray tank...sink still has water in it? I pull P trap, OK clear...where/why? Can I run a chaser down it? How do I find out where gray tank is located ref the itch sink?

Stove vent FIXED. Outside vent flap JAMMED into enclosure. There is no way a worker could have installed this and not checked it for operations.

The more time we spend in this the more I see a lack of quality control.

The vent flap locks closed to keep critters out. You have to open it before you use it each time.

Did your smoke alarm go off? We do have a fan in our bathroom vent and also on the stove vent. Never had a problem with either of them over the last four seasons of camping. If everything isn't working as you want, I see the you have a new FW, get the dealer to fix it.

Vent was jammed so bad not sure it was able too be opened but flat blade screw driver and some serious leverage forced it open...

Yep smoke alarm was running amuck...

If you unclip it, it will open fairly easily. You seem to have a number of issues with your new Jayco.. Perhaps you should visit your dealer and have them review the operation of everything. In all my years I have never seen or heard of anyone having to use a screw driver and lots of leverage to open the vent. Yes, some that don't realize there are two small clips that turn to release it and they try to pry it open will go so far as to break it, but, normally once they try to pry it they see the small clips.

Wish you better luck, you purchased a good rig.

had the vent hood stuck on a friends rig, some clear sealant had gotten in between the 2 halves, I thought I broke it opening it the first time.

Issues are to be expected in anything. This is our 3rd RV. Our first a 45ft motor coach I sold back to the dealer after spend on average 1 week per month for a year in the shop for warranty work. Name an item we had problems.

Our second was issue near free. Our truck camper which we have owned for 7 years almost problem free in spite of using it almost every weekend. WHY?

The lack of a nationwide dealers network forces a company to do QC at the manuf level rather than depend upon dealers. The old business model in the manuf sector was...throw it together and let the owners and dealership sort it out.

In the old days you bought a new car, it came with a 100% warranty...as long as it was on their lot, you drive past the curbs it was your problem.

Now toss in the did not buy it here...My nearest dealer an hour away van get to my sink stop up in Aug...maybe or Sept.

Confirmed. However, I knew that when I bought it. That's why I installed two more on my own.

You may want to check out the smoke detector also if it didn't come on.

Trout man, were any of you vents pre wired for a fan?

Norty, yes the smoke worked and worked well.

Lest anyone think I am a unhappy camper or would never buy aJ again they are wrong. Far from it. I would buy again and wholly recommend without hesitation.

What bothered me was the issues that arose should have been identified at Jayco or the dealer not by me while on a trip. To compound, things like the kitchen sink may not be fixed till this fall and we have a lot of travel...

Yes. One in the bedroom and one in the living room. Not only were they pre-wired (the wires were in the vicinity from the ceiling fixtures) but they were pre-framed. I called (or emailed) Jayco, gave them my VIN, told them I needed the ceiling schematic because I needed to add vents. They sent me the frame drawings showing the exact locations of the framing. I installed a Maxxair fan in one and a FanTastic fan in the other.
Speaking of kitchen sinks. I didn't care for the small double bowl sink so I replaced it with one large single bowl sink that was the same overall size as the original one, so no modification to the existing cut-out was necessary. Got it on Amazon (I think) for around $100.

Got it, I will get hold of Jayco and see if it applies to my VIN/unit.

Good idea on the sink, will ask wife on that.

LOL you should see the one I got her for the kitchen remodel: 36" wide, 10" deep, one bowl, almost a bath tub...LOL. Got it on sale, Stainless Steel, $398 IIRC, was $600 (which I would have NEVER given)

The dealer should have filled the grey tanks and the black tank to check for leaks so they should have seen the stopped up drain.

Grump, you would think so....that said we called our local Jayco dealer and talked with the Sr Svc tech and informed him of our problem and he said THIS:

"(LOL) that happens a lot, bring it in and we will fix it under warranty, but not unusual"

Glad I don't use your dealer. It never should have left the lot.

I fully expected our dealer to tell us no and hell no, you have used it and you must have stopped up the sink yourself, we don't do plumbing. But he laughed it off and said it was nothing rare for a new rig to have the sink plugged up....
