New 29.5fbds - Mod list

I bring it home tomorrow!

First few things I want to do...
Bug/Wasp Guards
Padding in storage areas
Figure out where to store:
the outdoor rug, have large tube I used on the TT
the sewer hose
everything else we took out of the TT

TV set up
fill any gaps, under side & storage areas

Any other suggestions?

Went with the B&W Companion Hitch (no slider), we'll see how that goes.

Question I thought of, how do you test the king pin latch? When driving big rig you leave the brakes locked and pull...can you accomplish the same thing with the trailer brake slider?

Congratulations! When we hook our 5th wheel up we keep the wheel chocks in place. After the pin sets in the hitch we lock it down and connect the 7 pin wire plug as if we are towing. Then we leave the tailgate down and raise the front landing gear about an inch off the ground. You can slide the brake controller to set the brakes and pull forward slowly to make sure you have a good connection. If it is good raise the landing gear to a towing hiegth, close the tailgate, remove the wheel chocks and off you go. If the connection is not good the pin will slide out of the hitch and the landing gear will touch the ground without bed rail damage because it was only about an inch off the ground.
Happy camping!

Got it home and the kids are playing in the bunk, demo went very well, only problem with the whole day was the cover for the water heater under the sink. Wifey is fixing up the kitchen and storage, we have hot water and all plumbing is working well! Camping with kids in the driveway tonight, we’ll see how it goes!

Thanks to this site I found info on JR Products 288-86-AB-TN-A Tan Dampered Floor Register...will be trying one to see how it fits/works.

Still trying to figure out what to do with the storage area under the nose of the trailer, gonna be hard to seal that up so no bugs can get in there!

We made it through our first actual trip with the unit, kids haven't decided on a nickname yet so we'll just call it JJ2, last one was Johnny Jayco!

Anyway, found a few things I'd like to work on...

1. Level, need to keep one in the trailer or put one on the trailer.
2. Blocks, need to make some rather than the pieces of wood I'm using now.
3. Storage, its lacking and I need to work out some underbelly solutions.
4. Refrigerator door, doesn't like weight on it, doesn't hit the latch when too much weight is there.
5. Bathroom vent needs an upgrade, not sure its something I want to tackle or even go to the dealer but I wonder if it would void warranty if someone else replaced it....

Trim above the bed came off the wall, not sure it was a good place to have it to start but I don't think I'll put it back.

That's it for now, we're going to take an long road trip in a few weeks so I gotta get to work!

The door that the water connection is behind won't stay open, that drives me nuts, gotta figure out how to get that to stay put!

I'm concerned about the plastic water connection to the city hookup, may put a 90 fitting on that and a piece under it to keep the pressure of the plastic.

We use a 90 degree water connection when we hook to a city connection. Cheap fix to resolve any kink issues. We also use the plastic stackable leveling blocks, they store in a bag for storage. Suggest a 2 foot level of you are going to carry one, takes up more room but it is more acurrate than a 6 inch torpedo type level. The fringe door hinges can be adjusted so the swing and latch work better. If you are not familiar with upgrading the roof vent to better product leave it to the dealer. As far as storage in the front area I use 1 x 2 lumber cut to length and attach it to the floor and upper part screwing it to the wood parts of the frame not the aluminum. I attach clamps on the wood to hold fishing poles, rakes, fire poles etc.. when I go to the storage lot I will take pics and post them for you. Everything in reach without unloading everything.

Thanks for the feedback. I reviewed the manual and couldn't find anything that related to adjusting the hinges. Will do some more searching on the ole net.

Got the outdoor rug tube installed today, took two trips to the stupid store since I busted two sockets putting in the self tapping screws. On to a few other things. Will try and get pics later!

Looks great. That will save room in the storage area. I will be going to the storage lot tomorrow where I keep my unit. I will take pics of the storage area as promised and post. Maybe it will give you a few ideas about storage.

Well, the hooks hold up the crank, one on each side. Figured out how to hold the little trap door open and made a little support for the hose connector. Had to order a 90 the local store didn’t have one.

Also made some blocks for the stabs and landing gear, just blocks screwed together and painted, used some fencing staples to secure some rope...

Lastly had to put a spacer behind the screen door latch so it would actually catch.

We don’t have a pass through like that but those hanger clip things are great.

You actually carry that much more water with you? I'd be overweight if I filled the installed fresh water tank.

No. I only carry about 10 gallons in the fresh tank for rest stops when traveling. I fill the fresh water at the camp site. The 35 gallon tank stays empty. I use it for long stays when I do not have water hookup at the site. I put it in the bed of the truck drive up to the front of campground where the water is and fill it. When I get back I hook the water hose between the rank and fill port on the docking station, turn levers to fill fresh tank, turn on pump switch, and most important crack a cold beer and wait while it fills my tank. Lol

Regarding the level, I use a large level to get the frig level and then apply small stick on levels to the outside of the trailer on the front driver's side. That makes it easy to put the trailer in place and jump out of the truck to check level.
