X2 for Walmart Super Tech

We have 60,000 miles on 2018 GMC 3500hd that we bought new. We've used Walmart Super Tech brand for 99% of our DEF usage. Not a single problem, nor have I ever found a "previously used" bottle refilled with water. And RK is right, the product turn over is extremely high. It's the only reason I've used other brands. And generally speaking it's half the price.

Just my 2¢, your mileage may vary.

Just hang in there, if the Genius in the Whitehouse has his way we will all be driving Electric Trucks and Electric Pusher Motorhomes in the not so near future. OH want that be fun, 400 max mile range probably .How many Days will it take to go from Florida to Kentucky ? Just think about going through Atlanta with Dually Electric Truck and you get stopped in traffic for a wreck. Your battery will need charging before you get out of Grid Lock.

i've heard that you can actually use piss in an emergency situation. And actually heard this from several different Truckers.. Not sure if this story is like the Tipping Cow Stories, but it's certainly a popular story. BTW - I haven't tried it yet

Ditto, Walmart has such a large turnover on these and the shelf space at my local store is limited so it’s always fresh. It’s half the price of Blue Def and reportedly it’s made by Peak which is who makes Blue Def. And with anything if the seal is broken bring it back.

Do not do that. It will cost you a lot of money. The def is 32.5 percent urea and the rest deionized water. Even being a few percentage off the 32.5 causes nox codes and scr efficiency codes. They also have quality sensors in the tank that will cause a CEL and a derate.

I thought I should add.. I do not have a good handle on how many miles I can go before the computer tells me to add DEF. When exclusively towing (11,000lb 5er) I think it's between 1000-1400 miles. That's when I get the message and can add 5gal to a 7.4gal DEF tank. With no towing I think I'm about 4400 miles. Now we have a 8800lb TT... maybe my 1000-1400 miles will improve. LOL.

While we were full timing, I would pick up two 2.5g jugs at Walmart after traveling around 750 miles since my last DEF fill. Put them in the truck bed and don't worry about them. You'll use them before they could possibly go bad.

Enjoy your new truck. You'll love towing with diesel.

Over 100k miles now on my 6.7L Ram/Cummins. Mostly (about 90%) SuperTech from Walmart. Never a problem.

Finding it is sometimes a problem. If they are out, I'll use the much more expensive Blue Def. They go through a lot of both. I never bother to check the dates.

One thing that hasn’t been mentioned is the ease with which you can connect the fill spout. With Blue Def I never have a problem with a connection with minimal drips and spills. It’s neatly packaged and you can tell if it’s been tampered with. I once bought a box from NAPKA and I couldn’t thread the spout to the bottle to save my life. A passing Good Samaritan saw me Struggling and leant me his funnel. When you spill that stuff it can make a mess on clothes.

Super Tech DEF is API certified. I doubt that Wally-World would allow the product to be on their shelves if it wasn't a true certification.

Super Tech doesn't specify the ISO 22241 standard on the bottle, but my understanding is that in order to achieve the API certification the ISO 22241 standard must be met.

Peak/Blue Def is made by Old World Industries. They are also one of the few actual makers of coolant. NAPA DEF is also made by Old World. Check the Walmart box to see if Old World is listed. The API website shows the list of companies certified to ISO 22241 - both Old World and Walmart are listed. Watch for sales - last weekend picked up NAPA DEF for $8/2.5 gal jug.

Photos below are from a NAPA DEF box and from my RAM 6.7 diesel manual on DEF storage and Cummins' DEF requirements.

That's fine; I was just saying that the packaging sucks. It's like buying a store brand of your favorite famous brand medication; It's the same stuff but you can't open the package without heavy kitchen tools.

Agreed - I have had spout issues/leaks with both NAPA and Blue DEF. Seems like a better spout wouldn't be too hard to come up with.

Just bought Blue DEF at Walmart last week and they are packaging it differently now . The fill hose use to be in a clear cellophane bag and now it's just stuck in the box by the handle. Harder now to attached the filler hose to the DEF. Almost impossible to get it tight. Then when you pour it in it leaks out.

Always something.

Ah, but I bet they shaved a penny off their costs to manufacture it...

But don't ever try to sell it from that point on. You might find a private owner but that will be it.

So, I would be interested in a comparison of the different brands and what is in the product. My guess is DEF is DEF is DEF.
