Stan&Sharon,

The optical plug on this unit is an input. I connected to the External Subwoofer Out port on the back of the unit. See page 6, connector 25.

Retiredtotravel,

By adding the subwoofer the cross over in the unit activates and cuts all frequencies below 140Hz to the amp. The lower frequency ranges are normally the power hog on most amplifiers. By adding the subwoofer I noticed a much better fidelity response including louder volume and better highs.

I would not base my buying decision on the JBL AURA - it is junk. I'm looking for a small Denon AVR and have it custom installed

Mine also sounds like a small transistor radio. Very low grade and poor quality. But thats not new for Jayco

I agree about the transistor radio sound, so I found that mine has a Nano subwoofer behind the fireplace. You can make adjustments to the subwoofer on top of it. It’s a bit of a pain to have to pull the fireplace to make these adjustments but it really perks the sound up and added a ton of bass to the A speakers which are the only JBL speakers. The sound doesn’t change on the other 6 speakers but makes the system much better. It does play the TV sound through the JBL if you use the ARC setting on the JBL.

So, what about the sub control under the ledge above the fireplace? Are we talking about separate adjustments?

No, that does adjust the Nano subwoofer that I am referring to. You just need to make the fine tuning adjustments to the Nano first and then you gain better control with that knob. I have my bass wide open and the gain at least 3/4 of the way turned up on the Nano for the better sound. That knob can turn the bass back if you are playing a song or movie that has a lot of bass to it and rattles your cupboards

I just found this thread. Is it necessary to remove the fireplace to giant access to the sub? I'm assuming so, since I can't even see the box thru the televator hole...

Yes, that’s how you have to do it to make the changes. It’s really easy with an electric drill and Philips bit.

Yeah, didn't look to complex to remove, just didn't know if that was the only way.

Thanks for the reply!!!

A few things I noticed...the nano sub helps...

They need a real EQ in the Aura...not the preset EQ you can chose from.

The ARC system works nicely!

Yes. Turn on your TV. Make sure your HDMI is connected between your TV and the HDMI input located in your cabinet. Turn on the JBL, Select "ARC" and press the button "A". For surround sound, press button "B". In case you are curious, button "C" are your outside speakers
