New Rims and Tires for Pinnacle 36reqs

We did our first trip this past weekend with loaded trailer and ran into tire issue. Last year when I got out 5er I started researching the tires on it and it looked like they were at the max for both rims and tires and this was confirmed when visiting my local tire shop who installed the steel valves for my TST system. While the.trip to the.park was uneventful the trip home proved otherwise. Both tires on the passenger side road hot and as we exited the ramp to home 1 tire started going down due to belt coming through the corner of the tread. I am now in need of changing tires and looking at Boar rims with tires in the 19.5 with the Continental HS3.
Has anyone done this upgrade and is it overkill? We are running the weight at capacity of 16000# and tires and rims are rated at 3080.
On a side note.the TST saved our a$$, tire pressure remained constant but temps ran 20 degrees hotter.in tire with problem, was able to pull over and let them cool down at least getting us home.

Do you know your pin weight? Without knowing that detail, I feel as I would want to go up a load grade.

tires = 4 x 3080= 12,320 lbs

Estimated Pin weight;

16000 x .20 = 3200 lbs
16000 x .25 = 4000 lbs
16000 x .30 = 4800 lbs
16000 x .35 = 5600 lbs

So if your pin weight is over 25%, in theory your good. However, most people seam to like to go up a load range.

Did you buy it new? If you did I would contact JAYCO since they may have put the wrong tires on it. That number seems low since they were using the ENDURANCE 16" load range "E" which start at 3,400 lbs and that goes back to at least 2018.

No did not buy it new. While I do think the number is low on the tire for this trailer it seems common for 16" tires to have these issues and I could change the 1 out I think it will not solve the problem at hand. I have not gotten the tounge weight yet, was waiting till trailer was loaded to go get new weight again and redistribute if needed.

What year and what brand tire?

As I said the GOODYEAR ENDURANCE 16" 235/80 starts at 3,480 lbs and they go up from there. The 255/85-16 is 4,080. Even the BLOW MAX 235-80/16 was rated at 3,520. They came on my 2015. Did the original owner change the tires?

With all that said, Goodyear G614 is a G range tire which is what I switched to before I had any tire trouble.

My new Pinnacle came with 255/85/R16 Goodyear Endurance which are rated at 4,080 pound capacity. I've run the Endurance tires on my last 2 boat trailers and had no problems. They are made in Alabama. You haven't said what year Pinnacle you have but must be before the switch to the Goodyear's.

Hey Grumpy, after seeing your last post went back to the trailer and they are the same as your blowmax. The tire shop told me the double number stamped on the tire and that is what I used. At the same time we looked at the rim weight and it was just over the the tire spec. So going forward I am looking at the commercial tires to put on the trailer as so many have even made metaphors for the tires put on these trailers. Picture shows the belts popped through.

They would be for a 2015. As I said look at the new ENDURANCE or the G-614 both made in the good ole USA....

Thanks for the replies, was hoping someone had tried the 19.5's, guess I'll be the guinnie pig. I checked out the Goodyear's Grumpy recommend and seen they had the same issue overall but GY seed to pay to fix the RV. As for Sailons I had them in my cart for the last year thinking that I would switch to them when this happened, little did I know it was going to so soon. It was going to be 1800 to switch to 17.5 with new rims. So decided to bite the bullet on the 19.5's, they just seem so much beefier.

I put the Goodyear G614 RST's on our old Alfa. 110 Ilb psi rating. Great tires and you probably wouldn't need new rims unless yours are not rated for the higher pressure. Never had a tire issue in 12 years with those tires.

Mine are the 16" 8 lug at 3860# each. I rid myself of the China bombs that came on them and put the Goodyear Endurance tires on. Per Tredit, these wheels are good for G rated tires and the higher 110 (?) psi ratings also.
Going with the 19.5 tires and wheels you may want to take a measurement between the top of your tires and the bottom (floor) of your trailer AND take a measurement between the tires themselves. With the bigger 19.5's you may not have enough clearance, Clarence.
