Mine would do that sometimes, especially if cold out. The seals drag too much and cause the top to not slide in right.
When retracting stop as soon as you see it start to bind. Do not try to force it with the motors! Grab the top of the slide from the inside and pull down until it 'unsticks'. Then retract some more. On a really cold morning I had to 'unstick' mine three times to get it retracted.
Mine would never do it for the dealer so no adjustments were ever made to it. I just watched it. Adding some seal protectant helped a lot. Made the seals slippery and kept them flexible.
