I towed at 37' Heartland Cyclone toy hauler with both a 2004 and a 2014 Duramax and I cannot recall ever having a problem with sway nor did I every see a 5th wheel sway. I agree tires are important but IMHO there is something else going on to cause a sway. Either you are not level, and weight is too much to the rear, or the weight in the 5th wheel is unbalanced to the rear.

I also had Airlift 5000 on both vehicles to level the rig since generally pin weight will squat the truck a bit and can lead to the nose of the 5th wheel being down. While that could cause a sway issue too, that sway usually originates at the truck and not the end of the trailer.

I would be looking at the overall balance of the 5th wheel (are your tanks rear? that could cause an issue) and also looking at leveling the entire rig front to back before changing tires out and finding the problem never went away.

I’d agree with CAG. Look at balance. Additionally as someone else mentioned, look at where it sits relative to the drive axle. As I understand it, with the Andersen hitch you can achieve some substantial offset from the drive axle to avoid striking the cab with the trailer in a turn. Depending on how back that is you could create quite a lever or at least enough to potentially cause this. Being an older truck the suspension would be pretty broken in at this point allowing it to wiggle around a bit more if the hitch is set way back.

Some more food for thought in this. My current setup wiggles a little bit more than my past setup. Different year truck. With this truck, my pin is currently almost 4” behind the axle. Last one was nearly over the axle. I bet if I moved it up some of the wiggle would go away. Also feel some push in the turns at highway speed. Again, I’d attribute that to the same thing. I’ll probably move mine forward.

The Ryobi 150psi battery powered air compressor for under $35 was my choice also. It was a much less expensive option than a built in air compressor for the AirLift 5000's. I keep mine with my truck rather than with the 5th wheel.

After reading your post I looked into a Dewalt since I had the battery already and some gift cards burning a hole in my pocket. Works great. Much better than my little 35psi handheld. And now I don’t have to open the hood to use my Viair each time I air up tires. Still carry the Viair 24/7 since it’s not battery dependent.
