North Pont rear hitch

Never thought about using the rear hitch for anything other then a tote carrier until, I found the Utah Carrier. Now I'm wondering why would Jayco or anybody install a hitch without a harness?

North Pont rear hitch

The hitch is only an accessory hitch meant for bike racks or cargo racks only. Since it should never be used to tow anything (they specifically say this), there would be no reason for any type of 7 way. However, it wouldn’t be hard to add one if you chose to use it for the Utah carrier

I think it is basically a cargo trailer with swivel wheels that is hitched to the back of an RV or camper.

As was mentioned on the PINNACLE and NORTHPOINT it is for the cargo carrier only. JAYCO specifically states "NOT FOR TOWING"..anything. Label is even on the receiver.

I use one made by swivel wheel found on craigslist for $450.00. I figured that was cheap enough to try. Had to add supports to strengthen hitch and weld on dual receivers. I was worried about the small tires running hot but with my TPMS found they run a lot cooler than the rv tires for tv tires. I guess it's because theirs not much weight on them.

If that's an electric golf cart, that's a lot of weight!

I have been considering a cargo carrier with a ramp from Harbor Freight for my Pinnacle to carry a portable generator that weighs 236 lbs. Jayco support told me the receiver is rated for 300 lbs. The carrier weighs 55 lbs for combined weight of 291 lbs. I'm right at the limit. I'm concerned about the bounce and stress on the rear bumper of a 42' FW.

I would sure like to hear from those of you who are using a cargo carrier on your Pinnacle or NorthPoint FW, the weight you are carrying, and any modification you had to do make sure everything stays in place from cargo to FW.

I have used my hitch to carry my champion generator, generator box, propane tank and carrier. Not nearly as much weight as you but here’s what I did.

My cargo carrier is aluminum and light weight (got it at HF). I drilled a new hole in the shank so the carrier would be as close to the bumper as possible. Then I use a hitch clamp to eliminate bouncing. I also use ratchet straps to strap the cargo carrier to the bumper.

This provides a solid platform on the back of the trailer and has worked well for me. YMMV

Tom, for sure on the hitch clamp! I use one on my bike rack and what a difference. Absolutely no sway, bounce or anything.

Thanks Tom and AKRUEBBE for the information. I also have a Champion generator that 7500W. It is good to know you didn’t have to weld any additional support to the receiver. I will make the mod for pin location and get a hitch clamp.

I will send pics when I got it all setup.

Thanks for the replys….

Not sure what the tongue weight is.

Understanding the hitch will support up to 300lbs.

Grumpy; You show a good point. Maybe a Toyhauler is an option.

What brand hitch did you use on the RV. I have swivel wheel. And will reinforce brackets but my RV didn’t come with the factory hitch.
