Northpoint 387RDFS
Hey Folks, we are trading in our Northpoint 377RLBH for a Northpoint 387RDFS. I’m just wondering if anyone that has one of these, and what kind of modifications have you made. I’m curious as to how this unit tows especially if you load up the rear storage compartment with heavy items since it’s behind the wheels. Does this create an unstable ride?

Congrats! I love those and wouldn't mind getting one and you are getting it just in time the beginning of the camping season, we bought our fiver last July so we didn't get much use out of it.

We have a 2017 387. We started with a SRW and went to a DRW soon after. On the DRW we are ~3500 on the pin. We have the upgraded tires and are comfortable doing 65 even in traffic. We load mechanical stuff in front compartment, under bedroom is chairs, hoses, and stacking blocks, in the compartment under LR are tents, tables, griddle, propane stove, beach stuff, and spare tire, and in the very back is the smoker, charcoal, small propane bottles, power cord, sewage supplies, and other misc. items. On the inside we put all drinks in storage under the couch so that weight is close to axles.
We take a lot of stuff (some probably not needed) and on scales it is 16.3k.
With the SRW we packed the back heavy. We were within all limits except truck GVWR (over 200). The tail wagged the dog a few times.
The storage is unreal making it easy to overload. Help this helps.

Sorry, not trying to hijack this thread but I have a question on the measurements of the rear compartment from the very back, do you happen to have the measurements of the back compartment, we are also thinking about trading for this model, we are wanting to put kayaks in the back, they are 10’ long 30” wide and about 12” deep. I can’t find any on a lot near me. Thanks for the help.

They would not fit in the rear compartment on a 2017. Grand Design makes a front living model that may have the type of storage you are looking for.

Hey JSK, thanks for that info. It’s good to know the “tail wagged the dog”! That’s exactly what I’m hoping to avoid. We have an F-350 SWD that does good with our current Northpoint 377RLBH, but we didn’t need the mid-bunk like we thought, and storage up front out to much weight on the pin. Hopefully we can balance it out nicely.

Has anyone done any modifications to their 387RDFS? There are dozens of mods to the 377RLBH (my old unit) on this forum but that trailer is gone. The new one will be available to pick up in a few weeks. At this point I can’t imagine any mods, but I’m sure I’ll be thinking of things once I get it.

I too am interested in others who have modded their 387RDFS.
Mine will be delivered in a few weeks and I already have some ideas, but want to hear from some actual experiences.

Roadmaster shocks would be a good investment.

I’m very interested in getting shocks put on. I talked to my dealer about them and he looked at me like I was from Mars! I had him Google them while I was in his office and he said he’s been selling RV’s for 15 years and has never heard of people installing shocks on their trailers.

I see you’re from Byron Center. Did you get your Northpoint 387RDFS from TerryTown?

We are planning on installing JT Strongarm supports. Our friends say that they do a fantastic job at keeping the movement to a minimum when set up. Something else that I had done on my 377RLBH, was to isolate the blue “under-step” LED from the awning switch. When the awning lights are on the blue LED is not really needed, but there were plenty times when we were sitting by the fire with the lights off that the blue LED would come in handy. Just a thought!

Mod Update
It’s been a while since I posted here, but we have our new unit and it’s all dressed up but there’s no where to go here in Michigan. I did want to pass along a photo of my 1st modification. We really liked the outside fridge in our 377RLBH and it’s blue LED lights, so I decided to borrow a small section of storage from the front TV compartment and install a “dry-bar”. I can still access the low point drains and plumbing behind the sliding door, and of course I have access to the rest of the storage area from the other side. Pretty happy with how it came out.
