Northpoint braking

So today I dug a little deeper into why my 5er wasn't braking like it should. Following the many recommendations on this forum, I got to the point where pulled the drum and what to my surprise, grease everywhere! The drum surface where the magnet touches was badly scored and the shoes were cracked in spots. I don't know if they "turn" these drums or replace them. I will also ask if they will upgrade my bearings to Timpken as long as the drums need to come off.

Very common issue. Be sure to use good name brand (not China) double lip spring loaded seals. A name brand full synthetic high temperature wheel bearing grease.

Complete brake assemblies are cheaper than parts. Not sure if you're under warranty or not.

Drums can be turned like automotive but takes a special machine to do the magnet surface. Most likely the drums are china and should be replaced instead of machining them.

I have read once grease get all over inside its best to replace everything since its almost impossible to remove all the grease. Is the dealer going to do the repair under warranty or did someone else pump them to full of grease and its your problem

Lippert axles? If so Grand Design owners have been getting everything replaced for over a year. Seems Lippert was using the wrong grease. Would be worth looking into.

Interesting what one finds when looking for something else. It appears that the bearings installed in my Northpoint are some type of off brand Timpken. The part numbers on the installed bearings are 14125A and 25580. They are clearly marked "China". However, when I searched the part numbers, they came up Timpken,

Those are just generic part numbers, if you do a search for bearing 25580 you will find it made by many different companies. Some of the Timken bearings are made in other countries but most are still made in USA. I think most RV bearings from the factory are just cheap China bearings, I pulled mine within the first few months and replaced with Timkens I found on Amazon.

You need to determine what axle you have. I crawled under my TT and took a picture of the label on the axle. Since its a Dexter 4400# I went to Dexters web site and located that axle, they list all the part numbers. Then I was able to use Dexters bearing numbers and purchase Timken bearings on Amazon, they sell the bearing and races/cups in sets.

Best way to know which seals and bearings to get, is to remove them for the part numbers. I don't believe Lippert will give you industry standard numbers. At least they didn't 8 years ago when I tried with my previous trailer.

Lippert shows the following for the 7k axle, outer bearing is # 25580 and the inner bearing is # 14125A, these are just generic part numbers that will also cross over to Timken.

The Lippert part number is 122088. The corresponding National number is 412920. It is 2.25"x3.376"x.375.

Do you happen to know the part number for the races?
