NP 377RLBH Suspension Issue

Hi all, recently we noticed that, when hitched and towing, the street side fender of our NP sits REALLY close (less than an inch) from the tires. Note...the kitchen slide is directly above this tire. The edge of the slide sits very close to the tire, but there is more clearance between the tire and the actual fender well. The back tire is closer to the fender well than the front. There doesn’t appear to be any significant rub yet, but suspect that this is a potential disaster in the making. The curbside fender is probably a couple of inches clear of the fender. We noticed street side issue when we were traveling and took it to a trailer repair shop and were told it was safe to drive, but the springs probably need to be replaced (we’ve towed this trailer 36K miles). We have it at the RV service center now and after showing the service advisor the issue we received a response from the technician that the springs are fine. I’m not buying this. I believe the springs and equalizers need to be replaced. My questions...1) do any of you other NP owners have a clearance issue like I’ve described? 2) is there a rule of thumb for when springs and equalizers should be replaced? Thank you all in advance.

Here ya go...

You may be involved with this recall like many of us are.

Btw, when you have someone do the repair work on it, tell them to put the wet bolts in so the zerks are facing in and not out. It's much easier to grease them facing in vs when the face out you have to take the wheels off to get a grease gun on the fittings.

I just got off the phone with Jayco and they’re saying there is no recall or service bulletin attached to our VIN. We have a 2018. I’m probably going escalate this within Jayco.

I would take it to your Jayco dealer, write up a service request to have them look it over to make sure it is "safe for travel" and when the tire contacts the slide bottom and the tire blows apart destroying half the side of your trailer, they can be held responsible. And I would have them put in writing their clearance measurement findings too. All based on IF they say it's safe. I would also escalate this with jayco and still take it to your dealer and let them know this has been escalated and give them the all the info.
Just because tour trailer is an 18 year model doesnt mean that the frame, suspension, axles, etc weren't made in 17 with all the defective components that put the recall out there.

I agree. I suspect there are still design issues. And we purchased the 2018 in mid-2017. Now the challenge is getting the dealer to actually respond. Always an adventure. Thanks again for your help.

I have the same issue. Jayco also told me no recall on my VIN. I'm not going through the hassle which is probably what Jayco hopes for. I have a local spring shop replacing all the springs with 7 leaf. I'll fight with Jayco later.

After going back and forth with Jayco and the dealer this afternoon I'm doing the same thing. I'll deal with Jayco later. I have it at LazyDays in Houston, but have been discussing the issue with a local trailer repair shop. I'm going with the 7 leaf springs as well. Trying to figure out the best equalizer to go with as I will definitely be replacing or upgrading the Morride CRE3000. Nothing wrong with this particular model that I'm aware of, but will take the opportunity to upgrade if there is something better.

I had already switched to Dexter and had the Roadmaster shock system put in, although that was a custom install because the out of the box kit doesn't work on the the 2018 NP suspension setup. I had to have special plates fabricated and welded to the inside of the frame for the upper shock brackets.

I had to have the whole suspension braces and mounts replaced on my 387 north point. I had a bunch of cracked welds. After those repairs my unit still had about a 2” lean to driverside. After tons of phone calls and emails they are now working on upgrading leaf springs. I am just making my warranty end date. I plan on upgrading to the independent suspension in a year or so.
