Outer Slideout Seal Partially Deploys

Can anyone suggest a tool or some sort of a telescopic pole device to help deploy the outer seal on rv slideouts? Sometimes that seal stays partially folded under. These seals are new. Any ideas?

Have you tried a slide out seal conditioner they may be drying out and getting rigid. Just a thought

Having been in the high plains for some time and now central southern central (Lubbock, TX) we had a lot of dust on the rig and and around the seals. I was up on a ladder anyway washing and waxing the rig and had to use my finger to pull out several seals. I cleaned and treated the seals with Aero Cosmetics' Rubber seal...

Hopefully with fresh wax and the treated seals they will ride better. Next Wednesday is travel day and we will see.

Mine does this often. I condition the seals and they still do it. If I can reach it, I use my finger to adjust. If not I don’t worry. It’s less seal and more a wiper for when the slide comes in.

Coming from the plastics industry years ago, we had this occur on new seals intermittently . We solved it at the time by using rubbing alcohol (make sure this is compatible with your seals!) to wipe the seals. We found the release agent on the seal would sometime interact with moisture and stick.

Are you taking about the swipe seal? I use stick on clear (at least they started clear) cabinet bumpers up the sides of each slide. Luxe RV uses a stick on device to flip the seal but I haven’t been able to find it anyplace. Click image for larger version

That’s perfect. I need some of those for bathroom pocket door anyway. Great idea. Stick on or glue on? The ones on my bathroom counter always fall off.

Stick on.........as long as the surface is cleaned well, they really stick good.

yup. Mine were from Lowes or Home Depot but they were stick on. Been on for a year already. If they come off, I'll just put new ones on. Work great to give the slide seals a little help.

Mine started doing the same thing last year and that's about the time I waxed the sidewalls of the slides and started using that spray on slide seal conditioner. Now, both sides of the outdoor kitchen/bunk slide, the front side of the kitchen slide, the bottom of the master slide and the front side of the other bunk slide stay folded in. I've had to make it part of my routine of setup to go around the trailer and make sure all the slide seals are folded out.
I really like the stick on cabinet bump stops idea of prm99v6. I have to remember that for the spring of next year.

Had to pull the seals out of the Motorhome 3 slides every time we set up at a new rv Park. For that I used the end of a broomstick that has a plastic end on it and ran it the whole length of the seal to pull it out. it worked great without scratching . I sprayed some seal conditioner on the end to make it glide smoothly. Got used to it no big deal.

Folks, do not use rubbing alcohol on your seals. You can use 303, 3inOne rubber seal conditioner, spray silicone, Thetford seal conditioner or other rubber conditioner. But not any type of alcohol please.

seals

I put some talcum powder in an old sock and dust the seals twice a year it solver the problem with the sticky seals , now they flip over , don't chatter or leave black marks on the slide.

I've had the same problem with my 'Whitehawk 27'. Try washing the slide and applying a coat of 'Armorall' to it along with a the seal. This creates a nice slippery surface for the seal to ride on.

Outer slide seal folding back

I bought a telescoping boat pole. Around $20 from Amazon. And I’m sure the plastic end would work for the slide seals folding out. I use it to close and release
the exhaust fan vent. Probably many more uses too. Fits beside the passenger seat in my Alante.
