Picking up new 27.5 RKDS today

We are picking up our new FW today!! We already have plans for a birthday weekend of camping the end of the month. Looking forward to learning about our new FW and the towing differences between TTs and FWs.

FW is Fifth Wheel, TT is Travel Trailer. Thanks, have the TT hitched and ready to go. Will be back home with the new FW.

Congrats on the new FW, and remember it tracks a little shorter than the TT, so swing wider on sharp turns.

New FW is home!!! Towed like a dream, no problems with TV even with the heat and humidity yesterday. Dealer ser up hitch and we towed level and had plenty of clearence between cap and bed rails. Now to pack it up for our birthday weekend camp out and have a good time!! Will post pics later..

Hey Ruth, that's GREAT news. I'm wondering what your dealer did to get you level. I have a 2017 HT 27.5RKDS towed with a 2015 Silverado 2500HD/4WD and I am about 4" nose high from the back bumper to the front. I have about 5" clearance above the top of the tailgate and about 6" above the nose of the FW. My Reese Titan 16K hitch with Reese round tube slider is at the lowest position. It actually has one more hole that could make it lower but some serious modifications would have to be done to the hitch brackets. My MorRyde pin box is up as far as it will go also.

Couple of questions for you:
1. Did you opt for the 16" tire/wheel
2. Are your springs attached to the bottom hole of the spring perch

I cant remember when the big three started making their trucks higher. Perhaps that's the difference between your 2007 and my 2015. Another difference might be tire size on the TV ... Mine has 20" tire/wheel (factory, not aftermarket), or perhaps it is a combination of "things".

Didn't do anything. We haven't the Reese Revolution pinbox, set at factory setting, we installed a Reese Titan 16K set in 3rd hole up and no slider. We have 15" tires on FW and 16" tires on TV. There is 6+ inches of clearance at bed rails. I suspect that the 20" tires are your problem. I don't remember the spring settings. I will have to look and get back yo you. Will post a pic later.

Guessing that the 2007 2500 doesn't sit near as high as the 2017.

I have the same trailer pulled with a 2016 2500HD with a B&W patriat 18K slider. It is set to the lowest hole on hitch. I have moved my springs to the highest hole. It helps a lot doing this. I have 15 inch tires also. I was going to move my pin box higher to lower it but decided against it. I think I am as level as I will allow and still have good clearance to the bed rails.

Yeah, cowboytm, I think I will move my springs and call it good. It will still be nose high, (because of the 20" tires/wheels on my Silverado). It tows fine the way it is now, just scares me that the rear levelers only have 6" clearance.

I hear you. I only have 18 inch tires on my truck. I didn't like clearance on my rear levelers either as I go hunting and on dirt roads with the trailer. I cut the fabric and moved my levelers up two holes and have about 10 inches of clearance now but still is not great. The dealer told me that they have cut out the sub floor for the levelers and raised them up and then foamed in around them. This may be my next step to get them higher.

So, this is interesting. I knew there was fabric above the leveler motor but thought the floor was adjacent to that. And I was also concerned with the main slide floor area above the leveler. Man, if I had that much clearance, I would be a happy camper.

When you cut the fabric away, did you fill around the leveler motor(s) with anything?

I just cut the fabric with a razor blade just enough for the motor head. One side gave me a bit of a problem as I want to gain 2 holes. I took my floor jack and raised with it until I could put 3 of the 6 bolts back in. Also I always take the foot pads off mine when traveling.

Ok, you just made a split through the fabric. That makes sense. The "other" side that gave you trouble ... was there anything in the way. Wondering what the trouble was ?

It seems like there just wasn't as much room above the motor. So used a little force.

Ok, thanks. We leave in about an hour for a weekend camping trip ... I will check out your suggestions when I get back and take a hard look at doing exactly what you did. If I could raise the bracket 2" I would be satisfied ... and then lower the springs eyes to get a little more level.

I think you would be right..I don't know why they are raising the trucks so high. I have side step rails to help with getting in to the cab. With the new trucks, I would need a step ladder...
