Pickup upgrade requires a new FW hitch...Recommendations please

Just traded the 2016 Chevy 2500HD short bed for a 2018 GMC 3500HD long bed with DRW. I need a new hitch to replace the super glide I used in the short bed. Looking for recommendations on what brand you all recommend or use. Still towing the Eagle 321 RSTS, max GW 12,700. Thanks.

I like the B&W I just got. Then there are Curt, Reese, etc.

I don't think there is a bad brand. Just pick the one you like.

I’ve used our B&W for 3 years and have been 100% satisfied with it. It uses the factory puck mount which is easy to manage. This is also the only 5th hitch I’ve owned so I don’t have any comparison points.

I too have an Eagle 321 RSTS that I tow with a shortbed F250 & a Super Glide.

Other than not needing a sliding hitch in a long bed truck, what's wrong with using the Super Glide?

If I had a long bed truck and didn't already have a Super Glide, I'd seriously consider the Anderson Hitch. I put my Super Glide in & out with an engine hoist. The Anderson hitch goes in & out easily with the strength an old, fat guy like me.

I have a similar size and weight Jayco Eagle (323LKTS, 12,950 GVW), I initially towed with a 2003 Ford 7.3 Diesel shortbed, and used a Curt 20K hitch. I never had any problems, although the Curt had jaws that did not completely cover the pin, causing for slight up and down movement over rough roads.

I purchased a new 2016 Ford 6.7 Diesel 18 months ago, also a shortbed, and transferred the Curt 20k onto it. Immediately I started having issues with the interior. The ceiling fans blades broke off in travel due to the harsh bouncing, and the couch would "walk" away from the wall and into the center of the floor.

All this to say I purchased a Hensley Trailer Saver hitch at the end of
December. They have a full money back guarantee for 30 days, and you can extend that until you have a date to start a trip. I have only used it for a 40 mile trip so far, and nothing was disturbed inside. I am also looking into shocks for the fifth wheel. I don't know why there was a difference in the ride that caused all this, but if I like the Trailer Saver I will be selling the Curt hitch on craigslist. I am interested in others who may have gone to a similar air ride fifth wheel hitch, and what their experiences are.

We have a Mor-Ryde pin box that has the big rubber block to absorb most of the chucking. We get a pretty smooth ride from it. Occasionally a particularly rough road will cause a drawer to open but it’s not often enough to be an issue.

I started out with a Curt. Really liked it, but then the jaws loosened up. Got it replaced and sold the replacement. Seemed like a great hitch, and most likely a one off deal, but decided to move onto a B&W Patriot. Really like the hitch easier to hitch and unhitch, and also a much tighter connection. No noise, no slop. Andersen was my next stop, but I think I'm good now.

Thank you, West Texas Ranger. You are correct in that I didn't need the hitch pin and trailer sliding back on every turn. I did like the Super Glide, however.

Was the previous truck a 1T or was it also a 3/4T. Different suspension can give different reactions to the trailer. Our 2009 Dodge 3/4T was worse than the new Ford 3/4T we have now.

Both were F250, however the first was 2 wheel drive, the new one is 4x4

I love the b&w companion hitch. But I have a flip over ball in every truck I have. No rails. One hole in the bed. What's not to like. I can use it in any truck I have or anyone that has a b&w flip over ball in their truck.

If your 5er is still under factory warranty, beware that should you experience frame damage while using the Andersen Ultimate, Lippert and Jayco will deny your damage claim. They've put that in writing to me when inquiring.

I personally don't think the Andersen unit will cause frame damage, but if there is some other cause and you are using the Andersen, your claim will be denied.

Lippert considers the Andersen Ultimate to be a gooseneck type of hitch.

Andersen supplies their own supplemental warranty, but you may be out of pocket until they decide to reimburse. Of "if" they reimburse.

That is a risk I am willing to take. With all the forums and threads out there about the Andersen, I have not seen one from a person who directly said their warranty was denied. With the way everything blows up on the internet these days, if one persons warranty didn't cover the repair because of using the Andersen, the thread would be 100 pages long on about every rv and truck forum.
