Plumbing Question

We are still trying to figure our camper out after owning it for 2 months. My questions is: When I am at a campground with full hookups should I leave the grey tanks x2 open or closed, and if I leave the open will I get a smell from the sewer? Also should the black tank be closed as well, or leave it closed until we finish our weekend, usually we camp for 2 or 3 days at a time at a campground with full hookup.

Leave both closed. Do your best to wait til the black tank is 3/4 (use lotsa water when you flush). Flush the black tank first (most folks wear plastic gloves)and close it all the way, then empty the grey tank. That's the basics for now. Others will probably chime in

You'll get many different opinions to your question. Definately want to hold your black tank until it is at least 1/2 full or your breaking camp. I personally hold both of my grey tanks as well and depending on how many is with me will dump them as needed.

I keep my grey open most of the time. I worry the kids will accidentally overflow it. I close it the morning i know i am gong to have to dump black and near the end of the trip to let it fill up so I can use it to flush out the black when I dump.

Do I understand it right that the grey tank is cleaning out just the black hose after I empty my black tank? Sorry for all the questions but Im just trying to figure all this out and make sure Im doing everything right. I make sure that I use the exterior flush system hookup to clean out my black tank, I usually let it tun for 2-3 minutes and flush the black tank out.

I try to leave all tanks close, sometimes I have to empty the grey tanks when the grandkids shower. I allways fill the black tank complety to flush it after emtying it before I break camp, most of the times I do it 2 times , I don't trust those cleaout adaports. With the new Jayco, you don't have to go inside to fill the black tank, you can do it from outside..

Sootsweeper,

You are correct, the reason for flushingyour grey last is to clean out the lines after your black tank has been dumped.

Always leave the black tank closed.. till it is full.. you can leave the gray tank open or closed..your choice BUT close it 2 days before you need to dump the black tank.. then you will have lots of water for flushing out the hose after you dump the black tank..

Maybe this will help you understand the system... kind of generic diagram of the fresh/waste water system...
