Question Propane storage door

2019 Jayco 29.5 BHOK. Propane tank storage door is hard to close and hits on tanks. Sometimes it will also pop one of the latches. Dealer tried to move the hold down try to adjust but that failed. Anyone with those issues and maybe a fix?

We have the same issue on a different Jayco model...not sure why the construction of this compartment varies so much but once it's built there is not much to be done. I can close the door with a little effort and I added a keyed lock to one of the latches. There has been a discussion or two on this forum if it's allowable to lock the propane compartment but at least I know it will not pop open.

I had this problem and found that i was bending the bottom lip where the back side of the door rest on.. This is very easy to do when removing/reinserting propane bottles during fill ups. I used welders vice grips to bend the lip back.. One has to be extremely careful when installing heavy tanks.. I wished Jayco would have allowed at least another half inch clearance away from the door, this would make it a lot easier to instal heavy tanks avoiding bending the lip.

I don’t have this problem on our 2018 28.5 HT. Our tanks fit well and the door closes nicely.

2018 26.5RLDS with the same issue. The door is bending at the latches because the tanks sit out just a bit too much. Without modification of the panel behind the tanks, they have nowhere to go. We are in for warranty service next week, and it is on my list.

Propane Storage Door

Jayco has a fix for the ones with issues. They are having their supplier ship me a update door kit. Rather than have my dealer install it I opted to do it myself due to some low quality service techs work already. It is some type of ring /spacer that goes around the door frame and extends the door out just enough to clear the tanks. I will update when I can with a picture of same

I have a different problem. My tanks when they are latched in, ride up against the switching valve/gas level indicator. I have already had to replace one valve from getting knocked around and giving false readings.

I have a 2017 28.5 rsts and had the same problem with the door hitting the tanks. I was able to unbolt the tray that the tanks sit on and move it in board a little. Had to drill a couple new holes to remount the tray. the door shuts fine now.

I / we tried that at the dealer. I worked with them but it did not go in far enough. Good thing I can make repairs because the issues are never ending on this one. Now I have made many adjustments overall it is in good shape. At first I was calling it Junko made by Jayco

Our 2018 30.5MBOK has the same problem. Was told by the Dealer that our bulging door is the “nature of the beast”! Would be interested in what Jayco sends you as I’m handy & can fix most things.

My propane tanks on my 2018 Jayco 27.5 RLTS would not let the door close easy. I took them out
and ground down some of the metal frame behind them in order that I could push them
back a little . every thing works fine now......kanic

Kanic, again I forgot I had t drill new holes and move the tray back just a little as well.
you only need to grind a little curve behind each tank and then push the tray back
try one tank before you bolt your tray down. This was on my My propane tanks on my 2018 Jayco 27.5 RLTS....kanic
