Propane Tank leak

So my FTW pulls from 2 30 Pound Propane tanks with a valve regulator in between. I suddenly developed a leak between the bottle and the RV attachment to the bottle. My connector does not have an O ring in the fitting, the rubber ring is in the 30 pound bottle. Can I replace the rubber gasket in the bottle or do I have to replace the entire 30 lb cylinder ($88) These tanks came with my FTW which is 5 years old.

Be sure and check things carefully…my propane leaks were from the hoses that go from the tank to the regulator….ended up replacing all of them….sometimes I had to flex them some before they would leak or hiss very lightly…discovered that by trying to make sure all the fitting were tight and moving the hoses …..

It sounds like you did a leak test with some soapy water or propane leak test fluid to determine where the leak is. I don't know if the o-ring is an option or not, but you don't have to replace the tank. Take it to a propane supplier, like Suburban Propane and they can give you a price on replacing just the valve assembly. It;ll take a special clamping device to change it, but it's been done a lot since the requirement to have an OPD style valve on tanks.

I replaced my hoses this year as one simply came apart at a connection. Only 5 years old.
Replaced with hoses protected with stainless mesh.
I don't know of any O rings or such in my 20 pounders. The seal is in the hose via threads pulling it tight on metal to metal. on mine.

I have the same setup in my 2017. We bought it a year old and it had all sorts of LP leaks. I would notice the bleed down after about a day of no use. I bought a $30 sniffer off Amazon and it worked great. I ended up replacing both hose whips and also the regulator. They all leaked. The regulator was replaced with a made in the USA model. After that I still had another leak in the main hose about 2/3rds a ways down the trailer enroute to the kitchen area. The hose was slit on the top from some bad metal work from the frame makers. Cut that hose section out and spliced it together and no more leaks. Jayco really does crap work and uses crap parts in this area. I first used the soapy water but couldnt locate the many leaks. Get a sniffer and you will be set. I didnt want to mess around with leaking LP!

There is a rubber gasket in all tanks with the combo valve.

Pertaining to the tank valve O-ring, I ran across this article from Charbroil, stating the O-ring is not replaceable.

https://www.charbroil.com/support/ho...pane-tank-seal

What looks like an O-ring, is actually a very special grommet style device, specific to OPD valves.

I have been using 20lb tanks in my rig for years. If I find one with a questionable seal, I just take to a tank exchange and verify the seal and date is good.

I still use my 30lb tanks around the house for grills and the firepit. The seals on mine are good still after over 11 years. I will likely fill them before the certification runs out next year.

FYI - we ordered this off Amazon 7/2022 to help with detection of leaks. We did have to purchase two longer hoses because we had to turn the tanks in order to close the tank door. So far so good.
