Rain water inside fridge vent

We have an 2019 Jayco Eagle 29.5 BHOK. The place we camp at is on a lake and storms pop up frequently and they can be bad. Twice in the past month we have had rain get into the camper through the fridge vent. The wind makes it so we can't leave or awning out, which would probably help. Any ideas?

Maybe cover the inside of the fridge vent with a fine mesh screen. That way airflow isn’t restricted but rain can’t just blow right in. Hopefully the screen will help deflect the majority of the downpour? Otherwise you’d have to devise a waterproof cover but be sure you removed it after each rain so the fridge components don’t overheat. Something as simple as a thin sheet of foam insulation cut to fit inside the vent cover.

Welcome to the forum.

It seems like it would be a rare occurrence. Have you considered making some kind of temporary wind deflector? Maybe an ice chest sitting on a table close to the side of the trailer?

We did try some foam from the outside in the vent spaces, it was probably only in for 20 minutes or so. It worked, but the fridge started to make a noise it wasn't doing before. Took it out and it was fine, but that worried me. The fine screen may be worth a try. Thanks for the ideas.

That would work too, but was looking for something that work in case we weren't at the camper when the storms came. We thought it was just a fluke occurence the first time, but since it happened a second time within a few weeks, and only the second bad storm we have encountered with the new camper, I'm not so sure. Thanks for the reply!

I have the same model and this week-end rain water came down from the vent on top of the trailer and traveled down next to the fridge inside all over the floor.

We have not had any trouble with the roof vent, thank goodness! We purchased the Camco Flying Insect Screens for the fridge vent and so far we haven't had anymore issues.
