My friend has a 7.3 in his truck. He's a Ford master mechanic, and he told me to change at 10,000. I take his word his truck has just under 1 million on the odometer with no issues. Like someone said oil filters, and oil are cheap.
This may be different for newer engines, but no harm to do it more often.
Post up a picture of your friends odometer!

He lives 3 1/2 hours away. I will see him the weekend of October 10th. I will post then. It's a 1990 7.3 IDI in a 250.

I have just turned 5,000 miles in my new Ram 2500. It has an ecid display for everything. I still have over 60% of oil life left and over 60% of fuel filter left before it will indicate a need to change. I have had the truck about 3 months so in 6 months will probably be close to 10,000 miles. I am going in to talk with the mechanics at the dealership and see what they suggest. I will not wait until their suggested time interval.

A 5.9 in a 2014? I thought that 2007 was the last year for the 5.9.

My philosophy in a nutshell:

"no harm to do it more often"

oops that was supposed to be 2004. Wish they still made them in 2014, I'd go out and buy one.

Well, the dealer would not stretch the oil changes over a 4 year period. However, I went in this morning and had the oil changed at 5,000 miles. I found out my 4 free oil changes for customer loyalty are for 24 months and not 12. The salesman was off by 12 months. That is much better as I will probably go for every 7,500 miles. They also use synthetic oil for the diesel engine oil so I like that part too. In any case, I will get my 4 free oil changes in the 2 year period.
