Well, hopefully we get this issue resolved today. Have to have minor surgery this morning for some of that Florida Sunshine! Dropping unit off while I have surgery. Hope to be able to pick it up all fixed up after that. I love that truck and this is just a minor inconvenience. It is a pulling machine! Will update everyone this PM.

Most of the time it's the switch.
BTW I work at a dealer.

Well, it was not the switch, or the clock spring. After several hours of trouble shooting, they say it is the steering wheel wiring harness. Ordered a new one and should be in tomorrow. Another trip to the dealer and another few hours to get that done. Hopefully that takes care of it.
Thanks to all who responded.

Boy, were you ever right on that one. Never called me back that the part was in. Finally called them. Now they say they have to take the steering wheel apart again to get the part number of the steering wheel wiring harness. Why didn't they get that when they were in there the first time. Now I have to take my truck back (50 miles one way) to sit for a couple hours while they break it down and put it back together. Then I will have to take it back again whenever they get the part in. I simply love this truck but can't stand the dealers service departments. The dealer where I purchased my truck has one mechanic and one oil change guy. Can't believe Fiat/Chrysler even has a dealership like that! So, I have to drive out of town to get any work done. Will keep everyone posted.

I can believe it. 2 years ago I started experiencing an electrical issue on my '05 3500 diesel. After starting the engine, the voltmeter would abruptly drop from 14 volt output to barely 12 volt. Totally random and would last for seconds to several minutes. Took the truck to local FCA dealership. Their 'senior' diesel tech had the truck all day and could not find anything wrong with it for $150. The problem persisted. Drove to Orlando to an independent mechanic I often use, he had it two days and determined the problem was with the radiator fan clutch. I'll be darned if I understand the relationship, all I know the problem was resolved and hasn't happened again.

Unfortunately, most dealers employ parts changers, and don't know what to do if the diagnostic computer comes up with nothing.

Well, the waiting game begins again. They tore it apart yesterday and got the wiring harness part number and ordered a new one that was to be in this morning. The dealer was supposed to call me to let me know it was in so we could set up another appointment. We will see how long they take to get back to me. part was supposed to be in this morning and they told me to come back this afternoon. I told them when they have the part in hand to call me, and then we will set up an appointment.

Well, got back in touch with Ram this afternoon and after checking around, they found my part was in. So, I have an appointment tomorrow at 1 pm to tear everything down again and put in my new steering wheel harness. We will see if that takes care of the problem. Hopefully so.

Thanks Danno! However, it didn't work! Latest saga is........
They were taking so long I knew something was not right. Finally went back and asked the service manager if they were having problems. He just hung his head. He said the new wiring harness did not work. They were trouble shooting voltages now to see if they could find out what was going on. Final resolution was I left my truck at the dealers to work on last night and today. I got a new Jeep Cherokee out of the deal to drive home. I explained to them I was leaving on a camping trip the following Wednesday so I needed my truck back by Tuesday, whether they had fixed the problem or not. Next update to follow next week! Have a great weekend to all and stay safe. Severe storms here in Georgia!

2014-2015 Ram 2500 Recall S87

Supposedly, my vehicle is fixed. I will find out what the problem was when I pick it up. Also for 2014-2015 Ram 2500 owners they have just released a recall on the Selective Catalytic Reduction Catalyst. In other words they are replacing the converter. This recall has just come out and they have replaced mine while it was in the shop. Just a heads up to other owners of 2014-2015 Ram 2500 owners. May want to run your vin number and check on that.

Thanks for the heads up on the new recall. That sucks! I just had it in a few weeks ago for the track bar replacement recall!

I just punched my VIN into Mopar's recall center, and no recalls or campaigns for my VIN. I guess that's good news.

I hope they really did get your truck fixed!

I thought about you the other day. I was driving the and talking to my dad on the bluetooth over the uconnect. I punched the button to set the cruise and my call immediately dropped. It felt like the two were related, and I thought "oh crap, now I've got the steering wheel problem!" But it ended up being a coincidence; I drove into a dead spot and lost cell coverage.

Ironically, I had punched in my vin number as well and it did not show that I had a recall either. Finally, my truck is fixed. They wound up replacing the steering wheel wiring harness and also the clock spring. Also steering control module, whatever that is. Anyway, it is working fine and they also did 4 flash updates on the computer system. I should be good to go. leaving tomorrow for Georgia Veteran's State Park in Cordele, Ga until Monday. Stay safe all.

Uh oh. That's not good. I'm just not sure I can trust my dealer to tell me about it if I brought it up to them and asked them to check it out. Is that catalyst thing you were talking about unique to diesels? I have the 6.4L Hemi.

Glad you got it fixed though!! Safe travels!!

No worries Bob, the SCR systems are a diesel only thing.

Still disconcerting that nothing shows up with a VIN search. Maybe they just hadn't updated the online search tool since it was released so recently?

I just don't have a lot of faith in my dealer, so I depend on those VIN search tools to tell me what's going on...
