Ram Recall

I received an email notice today from NHTSA that my Ram 2500 is involved in the water pump recall. Supposedly a bearing can go bad and cause a fire. I have 50,000 miles on mine and no problems so far. I did call the dealer but they have not received the recall information as of yet. We will see how long this takes.

I also see that I will be on the recall list as I have a 2014 Dodge Ram diesel with 31,000 Kms. With all the recalls I have had with this truck I see no need to look at a new one as mine will be brand new when all these recalls at finished. Now if they would do a recall on the Sirius/xm radio system I would be a happy camper.

Waiting for my letter as well so I can get mine replaced.

If you follow the Cummins forum, you'll see there has been a lot of premature failures.

So it is all Cummins or not? I've got a 16 and haven't seen anything yet.
No issues to date either...

Do you have random drop outs with your radio too? Mine is awful.

Also, does this affect the 2017's?

Yes - some 2017 MY trucks are affected. You can go to the NHTSA web site and plug in your VIN number or your Year/Make/Model info and see a list of known recalls:

https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls

Below is the summary of the RAM 6.7l Cummins water pump recall notice:

Summary

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2013-2017 RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis, 4500 Cab Chassis, and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles, equipped with Cummins 6.7L Turbo Diesel engines that have Concentric-brand water pumps without a vent hole. These water pumps may leak coolant.

Remedy

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the water pumps, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin November 1, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T51.

Had mine in for one of the two free oil changes I got from the dealer and they told me no open recalls on mine either.

I have had the drop outs since I got this 2014 Ram. My old 2010 did not do it or at least not to this extent. I understand the 2017's have the same problem.

I’ve had no issues with radio in mine...

So far I have only received the notice of recall from NHTSA. Not a thing from Ram in regards to this recall. I don't think they have the parts to replace them.

Brother-in-law has 2016 RAM and while they were traveling their water pump went out. Went to dealership and there are NO water pumps available. And last week the truck was in the shop for another recall but nothing was said about the water pump. Very frustrating.

Make sure he keeps his receipt. Ram should reimburse him the cost of the pump and replacement.

Mine went out over the summer on a trip. Thank goodness it went while we were unhitched. Noticed the low coolant light came on during a store run and went get some more fluid to top off when the pump finally decided to go out (weep hole).

Dealers were 2 weeks out in the area, so I changed it out myself and did send in receipts. Took 10 weeks to get my check. Only covered the pump and not the fluid. Now that is going to be replaced again under recall, but by the dealer this time.

FYI removing the air box gives you complete access to the pump.

Also I now carry the 10/150K fluid in my arsenal. Almost impossible to find in any parts store one that is 100% compatible.

I recieved the letter from Ram in Nov. stating "the remedy for this condition is not currently available". Once a remedy is finalized and parts are available we will contact you again by mail. Haven't heard anything yet.

Also, it said those who have already paid to have this condition corrected can visit this link to request reimbursement online. www.fcarecallreimbursement.com

I had the water pump go out on my 2006. Only had 125,000 miles on it. I wonder if the recall went back that far. I may still have my receipts for replacement! LOL

Got a call from my Ram Dealer and they scheduled me for an appointment. Replaced the water pump and also software update to do with the shifting out of park recall. Anywhere, everything was completed in a couple hours. Back on the road, good to go.

Coworker of mine had the water pump go out on his 2016 Cummins 2 weeks ago. Took the dealer 3 days to get it replaced. Recall covered his towing bill and the pump.
