I bought the Harbor Freight truck bed crane as well. It works great.
I decided to upgraded mine a bit by adding a 1/4 plate between the crane and the bed for additional support. I also attached an ATV winch (With wireless remote) to the top of it. It makes it really simple to install my 5th wheel hitch now. Everything still tucks nicely up against the bed rail.
I would prefer to use the Goose neck setup since it takes up much less space in my truck bed. I continue to use the Companion 5th wheel that drops into the existing Goose neck hitch since it came with the truck. To use the Goose neck hitch instead, I would have to replace the pin box on the trailer with a Goose neck.
Using a goose neck adapter brings up a lot of discussion about voiding warranty or damaging the frame of the trailer. Just be sure to read up on it if you decide to go that way.
