Nice addition. I also see you added a step to your truck I installed the Bestep truck step on mine. Excellent decision!!!

Yes, I did, at my ages I can't keep on jumping in and out of my bed so yes it is a nice addition I had it on my last two trucks so I just took it off each time I traded.
Also I readjusted my hitch I was able to move it back some more about 1 1/2" back farther now I need to take it out for a ride, which I am going to do this coming Monday I'm taking it back to the dealer to get some warranty work done.

What made you decide to install the chains? Added safety?

Yeah, I figure it can't hurt, I won't the safety since it's on the gooseball it's not like the convenient hitches.

I’d say that’s more than enough angle. How’s it feel driving down the road?

Yes, I agree, that this is more than what I will normally go but I am very please with this setup, I took it to the dealer that day which is about 20-25 miles and it was as smooth as silk I really love it. Now I can't wait to get her back the dealer said that it's a 4 to 5 weeks turn around, so come on camping season.

That looks good! Should be plenty of angle for anything you'd want to do.

Hell, you might even be able to do donuts with that clearance! I know, just went through an eight week debacle with the wheel bearing seals being blown. And now that I have it back, the campgrounds are calling canceling reservations. Not a happy camper!

Yep, I agree I like to pull in wide and open campground ones that allow you to swing out wide and if I need to go in a thigh place I make sure that I will swing out as wide as I can.

I bet you are not happy I know I wouldn't be happy let's hope that we can get back to our life.
I was thinking that I could have went a little more but I didn't want to press my luck and to know that I want be cutting this sharp normally, but I'm please with the turn.

I am looking for a better way to hook up the chains. As it is I have to climb into the bed of the truck with the camper connected to hook/unhook the chains. On the GB FB group several folks have modified the chains by adding a clevis hook at the other end and putting lifting eyes where you normally bolts the chains. My concern with that approach is lifting chains are designed for straight pulls, not angle pulls.
Another person came up with a long "handle" approach so he could connect the hooks onto the truck from the back. Hopefully I've attached a couple of pictures of what he had.
Have you come up with something or isn't it an issue for you?
|
I solved this by putting clevis slip hooks on both ends of the chains, that way i can actually leave the chains in the bed when unhooked, and latch them to the 5er when hooked up. Also, can easily remove from the bed of my truck when i remove my hitch.

Lol, yes I agree I did took it to the limit and like someone I shouldn't have to never have to take it that far and if I need to I will go at it at a different angle.

Thank you sir, I think that I made a good choice going this route, I was looking at getting the AUH and could have but I choose to go with this hitch.

I ordered one for my new Ram 3500 After seeing your pics and how well it fits on your truck. Should be here Thursday. I really liked my pullrite superglide slider. Served me well for 13 years. It was a heavy beast though and I used an engine hoist to get it out of my bed. I think the Superlite I can handle.

Yes, it weights about 60 lbs the one thing that got me to go this route is I had a B&W hitch so I usually use my hoist to lift it out of my truck bed and them put it on my hand dolly and take it to my shed. Well when my wife call me and told me that her and three others ladies in my church said that they were coming home from their trip and all of their luggages, now this was at 9:00 pm.
So at night I had to hurry up and get the B&W hitch out of the bed of my truck and go to the airport to pick them up. Needest to say the B&W hitch was not light and my hoist was in the shed at late at night.
So I told my wife about it and man my back did not like that so she told me that I need a lighter hitch. I put my B&W hitch on Craiglist and sold it in about a week, but within the week that I had it up for sell I was looking at the Pullrite and the AUH and after all of my reseach I went with the Pullrite hitch.
I love it, I did install chain on this hitch and even though my state don't require them I want to get them anyway. Let me know and post some pics when you get it.
I seen your new 3500 ram and love it, I love the color of it also.
