Rodent infestation !!!!

Hi, we took delivery of an '18 Pinnacle 36KPTS OCT 10th, first Jayco product. We used only for 1 week late October, been sitting in my driveway since then. On Feb. 2nd I did an inspection inside and saw rodent droppings under the sink. I set (2) traps (Tin Cat), one under the sink and the other in the basement storage. To date (6 days), I have caught 14 mice !!!!!!! I have never had so many mice in all my years of RV'ing. Any idea where they could be coming in. Some factory YouTube videos said Jayco's underbelly was constructed as to minimize rodent entry. I believe this was misstated.

Mice need only an opening the size of a dime to enter a structure. No RV is mice proof, well a 1M Marathon Coach should be. Get some "Great Stuff" for DOORS and WINDOWs from Home Depot or Lowes and get under your TT and start filling holes. Use copper wool on the inside holes and mothballs in your cabinets to repel them.

Once only 2 tango you will get many more. Momma can birth up to 14 at one time and do that up to 10 times a yr.

I can't say about your model, but my previous trailer a Starcraft (made by Jayco) with a sealed underbelly had a design issue along the bottom of the slideout. It was sealed perfectly when the slideout was extended, but not when it was closed. When the sunlight was right I could see large openings in each corner down at the bottom. Big enough for a fat mouse to enter. Then when I laid down on the floor and used a flashlight under the carpet, I could see a gap the entire length of the slideout.

I fabricated a piece of aluminum angle and fastened it to the bottom of the slideout to seal the gap when the slideout was closed.

The slideout was built low into the wall, all the way down to the frame. It was easy for rodents to climb the tires, walk the springs right onto the bottom of the slideout.

I catch mice every week. I live in the middle of the woods so in both my TT and house I have various traps and check them regularly. My cat even helps out except for now, she don't do winter.

I am not sure where you are located, but if you can purchase Cab Fresh, try it. I have not, but a lot of friends swear by it. I have not had any luck with any other gimmick. I tend to use bait blocks and sticky traps myself.

I use rat zappers and some newer plastic type snap traps. I know they are only mice and can carry disease, but I can't use the sticky type or poison. I just want a quick kill for less suffering even if they are just mice.

I was trapping about 1/week from my camper. Then we used Fresh Cab and it helped. I think we got just 1 after using it.

I have no sympathy for those little bastards. Whatever gets rid of them, do it. My old man even went savage with a hammer when we peeled back a wall and they started running LOL. My big rotti may as well be an orange tabby too. Scoops them up and with one swift crunch of those powerful jaws, game over.

I got underneath my trailer and my parents' trailer and sealed up every opening (there were many) with expanding foam. You can get rodent proof stuff that they hate the taste of. Large openings use steel wool and then foam. No problems in several years since sealing it up.

Thanks, will try, I did hear that you use copper vs. steel due to the flammability of steel wool.

Mouse-Free works great on my campers. Been using it for many years on 2 campers and not a single mouse in either since spraying. Both campers had at least 1 mouse we caught in them so I know they got in.

In the past week and a half I been checking my camper daily and removed 8 mice from the traps in that time period. 10 if you include the 2 from my Avalanche's saddle compartments. They used the factory tire change gloves as great nesting material !

Electronic ultrasonic repeller
Works but you need shore power
We too live in the woods. We have not enough hawks. But with repellers in the house and TT
I’m done having to remove mouse droppings and disinfecting utensils every week

Moth balls suck!!! I can't stand the smell of those nasty things! We have used dryer sheets in everyone of our trailers and NEVER had a mouse or so much as ANY evidence of one.
My dad has mice in his pole barn pretty bad and occasionally in the garage. He has his corvette zipped up in a car bag and dryer sheets planted in the engine compartment, wheels, etc, and NEVER had a mouse around it. His travel trailer is stored in the barn and dryer sheets planted all over in it and on the tires/wheels on the outside and no mouse issues with it. Yet he still manages to trap catch them in the barn and garage.

What is the drain in temps that don’t climb above freezing for three months?

Dryer sheets, mint oil and other fragrances help, because they mask food odors. It helps even more to eliminate any trace of food odors in a camper first by cleaning counters, floors, etc with a cleaning solution. I'm sure sometimes mice are just looking for a sheltered place to raise a family but why put out a welcome sign...
