roof truss

Why did Jayco go back to a wooden truss in there 5th wheels? Were there problems with steel?

Maybe due to cost? Metal studs/trusses are more expensive yet they are lighter. So it's a trade off seems like...

It's also part of the "price point". North Point, Pinnacle and probably Designer are metal trusses.

Our PINNACLE and the early 16's were metal. Didn't realize they switched, which to me is good. Metal conducts too much heat and cold.

Mine is an early 16. It was ordered before dealers had floor plans.
All information I had then and that I can find now say they are wood.
All videos from 2012 say wood too.

**re read... PINNACLE. **

Look here Grumpy
2015 Pinnacle Construction Detail | Jayco, Inc.
Click on the roof detail.

Magnum roof ... Made with 5" stamped steel truss
With 2x2 vertical studs (??? That is wood??)
And oversized nail plates.
How are they using nail plates and 2x2 blocking on a stamped steel truss (like what you posted)

More confusing

That was one of our concerns with the new 5er(377blrh). Our dealer said they are metal. In the Black Hills of South Dakota, we are blessed with hail, sometimes golf ball size or bigger, that destroys the wood roof trusses. Can't see the damage, but you'll know when you walk on the roof. We had a piece of hail come through our plastic hatch last summer in the middle of the night and land in bed with us. Talk about a terrible way to wake up! It was the size of a baseball. Needless to say a miserable night on the roof with a roll of duct tape trying to seal the damn hatch! I now carry replacements.

Well they are wood
Magnum Truss XL6 Roof System is wood.
Watch the video at the bottom of this page
2016 Designer Luxury Fifth Wheel | Jayco, Inc.

I have scoured the Internet and have found no evidence of Jayco's magnum roof system being metal, besides 2014.

And there is no way hail is going to do any less damage to a steel truss system vs. a wood truss system as they are both covered in plyWOOD.
If that were the case you should run for cover when hail hits your wood tussed house.

I was under the impression that the structure for the walls and roof in my 2013 Eagle Premier 5th wheel is all aluminum. Is it not?

DW and I did the Jayco Luxury coach tour May 11, 2016 at Middlebury, IN. That line builds the Northpoint, Pinnacles and Designer coaches. All are being built with wooden trusses. Also, go to YouTube and see the roof system.

Wood trusses

Okay, a new poster (here anyway) and not even a Jayco owner...yet, but looking seriously. I have been trying to figure out the answer to the construction of the roof for a week and finally just called Jayco this afternoon to find out. Spoke with Nick and he said the Magnum Truss XL6 roof is wood, and then I asked if that was true for only the North Point or all of the FW. He said all have the wood roof. I agree that there is information out there showing metal trusses, and some showing wood, thus the confusion. I didn't ask him if they had been metal and when did it go to only wood, but he said all wood for all FW.
BTW - we are looking at a North Point 341/315RLTS purchase for early in 2017 to replace the current 2014 35' Wind Jammer. So I am snooping on your forum for comments and information; so far it looks like everyone is pretty happy with their Jayco units.

I believe all the roof trusses are made of wood even when the sidewall frames on some are aluminum frame
