Ours is like that too They make a canvas-like sleeve for the hose that protects it. I wrote to Thetford asking about it and they sent me one free!

Make sure you get a garden hose that's at least 3/4 diameter.

Another thing I wish Thetford would do is make an adapter that screws onto the end with a simple push in connection. There have been a few times where there have been no threads on the dump pipe, or threads all messed up or an obstruction which prevents you from fully turning the end to fully secure it.

I have been looking for an adapter and can't find anything. The only site we have camped out the drain was too big for the connector to screw in... we weren't sure what to get. We will be heading out for 2 months shortly and are at a loss.

Use this- It's tough rubber but soft enough to jam in place if the threads are messed up.

Keeps connection tight, and comes apart easily.
