Sanicon vs. Gravity

Seeking opinions and preferences. My 2017 Pinnacle came with a Sanicon system. Is there an advantage to using this over the regular gravity drain. I realize that if you have to to uphill then the Sanicon is necessary. My question is; if you are situated such that gravity would work, would there be an advantage of using one system over the other? Thanks for your feedback.

I have the Sanacon system on my rig but I only use it in case of an emergency. I use the 3 inch sewer hose when ever possible if I don’t use that I have a flow jet macerator pump that I use instead. The reason being that the impeller gets all gunked up with hair and stuff from the shower or whatever and the sanicon unit has to be disassembled to be cleaned. The flow jet pump screws on to the sewer outlet so it’s very easy to keep clean when I need to.

I use gravity at the sewer sites and dump stations but when I flush out the tank at home I use the Sanicon because I'm on septic and it grinds all the solids. I have had to use the Sanicon at a site with sewer because it was too far from to reach with my gravity line. I think it's a pretty handy feature.

I don't have a sanicon, but I use a FloJet at home.

I would say there are only 2 advantages I can think of: The sanicon may make the tank drain faster? Results are better the faster you can evacuate the tank. The macerator "forces" the liquid and may result in a faster drain and thus a better flush? But if you're using plenty of water, and you have a tank flush (and you use it) this is pretty much a moot point anyway.

The other is being able to use a smaller hose. My FloJet will pump the "dirty stuff" 100' through a 3/4" garden hose with ease. Perhaps the sanicon would allow you to use a smaller hose instead of the stinky slinky? I dunno, I don't mind the slinky too much...

I don't know these to be true, just spitballing...

Yes with the Sanicon you can use a garden hose and it will pump 100' as well.

I have a 2017 rsts with a factory installed macerator pump. It’s great, never have have used the gravity pipe, it’s still brand new.

I have the Sanacon System also. I use the regular sewer hose most of the time. I have been in some places where the sewer was a LONG way from the trailer. I picked up a extra hose from Amazon and Gator Locks from Tractor Supply. I can really reach out there now.

One place I was at was just a parking lot with the hook ups on the curb. It was a long way and high. It really worked good then.

I use the Sanicon 100% of the time why mess around with a stinky slinky?!?! I keep it hooked up all the time and just flick the switch..........how easy is that? Maybe some guys just like to wear gloves and rinse out the stinky slinky! If I'm going to pay $500 for an option you're damn sure I going to use it. So clean and easy!!

X2. We've been on two trips now with our new 5'er with the sanicon and I asked myself, why would I want to use the slinky at all with the sanicon staring at me? One thing after pulling in one campground, I had to adjust our position cuz the sanicon hose wouldn't reach the sewer ground connection. That's something I have become aware of. I will have to use the slinky if the sanicon just wont reach and there's no other movement to make it reach other than on exit day. I'll eventually go to Harbor Freight and get a 50' 3/4 hose to connect to the end of the sanicon hose to keep from having to use the slinky.

I had that happen once and decided to buy a Sanicon extension hose.........BTW, it's a two inch hose. Both fit just fine in the Sanicon box. Think I paid $75 for it and it comes with a coupling and stainless steel clamp. Never have too worry now!

I use a 3rd choice, Sewer Solution. It’s similar in concept to a macerator but has no moving parts. It uses a water jet instead of a pump. I’ve owned it for almost 6 years and have replaced the rubber seals once. Like a macerator it doesn’t smell. The only down-side I’ve heard of is it uses more water than a macerator or slinky. I carry 3 sections of 10’ sewer line that’s about a 1” OD and use what I need for the situation. If you haven’t seen it, do a google search. If mine breaks I’ll buy another to replace it, think it’s great.

It's 21' when expanded, the same that comes with the original system. I bought one from Amazon but it was a smaller diameter...........1 1/2' so I had to return it and bought the 2' from an RV supply store for the same price.

So the 1 1/2" hose wouldn't work?

I talked to Thetford about getting a sleeved discharged hose , part # 97612, I told them mine was leaking(it wasn't) so I gave them the serial# info and they sent me a sleeved hose under warranty. It's on it's way so can't post a pic.

https://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/f34/question-about-the-sanicon-system-66502.html?highlight=Sanicon. This is where I first saw this hose. Haven't seen it online anywhere. But it is available through Thetford if you call them.

Received the sleeved sanicon hose from thetford today. My plan is to have this section, close to the switch so if it ever leaks i should see it bulging in the sleeve hose and still be able to get to the switch to power off. If it leaks further downstream I hope to be far enough away that I can still power off without being sprayed.
