Saying Goodbye to the 377

Yes I’m still lurking on here from time to time.

Kids have grown up. Their interest in camping with mom and dad has long ago waned. They have jobs, college prep, friends etc that have pretty much prevented us from getting out on a trip for the past few years. I think it’s been over 2 years since we last booked a camping trip. Sold the truck way before the camper. It’s just been sitting in the driveway occasionally used for family during weekend visits. Today I gave the girl a much needed bath.

So the time has come to let the camper go to a new owner who can make great memories in the camper as we did.

Edit: sorry for the sideways pic. It’s been a minute since I last posted

...okay, now I re-read and I am crying. I think my mood is being manipulated due to the fact I'm sitting here feeling crappy. COVID positive since Tuesday, grounded, missing work, missing being 'busy' have my 15 y/o daughter positive as well, who can't handle sickness well due to autism, as she doesn't understand it. Also a husband trying desperately not to get sick as he has our business to run.

I think your post really hit be because, I have a 21 year old daughter in the Navy, stationed in Japan. She has been away from home for 3 years. She is extremely ill right now, has been for 6 weeks, for reasons they are not quite sure: her tonsils have been huge for weeks, she can't eat solid food and is coughing, especially when laying down as they block her throat/airway. Her medical care has been questionable. She just discovered she now also has pneumonia. She was called this morning with the news the ship is heading out for 4 weeks. She is exhausted from lack of sleep, still ongoing with a condition that is causing airway/breathing and fever issues and did not receive the clearance to stay behind. She can't sleep lying down...and if you know the berthing areas on the ships, there's no way to 'sit up' while sleeping. I am very worried for her.

I'm sorry I did not mean to hijack your post.
I feel sad for you, realizing it's time to sell your camper.

Thank you Tom. I'm good now...just a momentary low.
As long as I stay away from your original post, I'll be fine.

moderators, if you please, could you delete my long post. I meant every word of it, but I want Tom's post to be here for others to comment, without my hijacking, blubbering mucking it all up.

You didn’t hijack anything. You are a beautiful, loving wife and mother. That’s what I got from your reply.

Thank you so much for your understanding, Tom…you’re sweet.

I really am sad to have read why you’re selling your camper. I know it’s a common tale.

I just happened upon your post today at a sensitive time, for me.

I’m kind of the opposite, I just recently bought a camper in order to have something for me and my daughter (15 y/o) to do, as she’ll be at home with us for the foreseeable future. I did have the pop-up for a couple seasons before my older daughter shipped off, into the Navy, so that was nice.

I see nothing wrong with your post and you didn't hijack anything. Therefore, I hesitate to delete it because in my opinion it "fits" with the discussion topic and contains some similarities to the OP's. Also, by removing your post, the connectivity is lost between it and the posts made afterwards that make references to it. Anyone who reads the thread for the first time, with your post removed, is going to realize that there's something missing from it. The only way they'll see your post is if it was quoted in a reply.

Please reconsider keeping your post. Personally, I applaud everyone who found the courage to post how life's changes and problems are causing camping to slowly fade from your lifestyle.

Sad for me too. No more camping, no more mods. But it was a great journey and we made many great memories

No more mods...
It's just about as sad as no more camping.

Your memories are the best gifts.

I'm feeling 50% better today and with that I see camping hope for you!

I'm 57 y/o. I 'just' bought a camper after having a pop-up for about 4 years. I'm excited about my new camping journey. I am married with a husband that has ZERO to do with my camper. No interest either. He is fully supportive, but I understand him and know, he loves his own bed and he doesn't enjoy 'outdoors.' I love taking the time for myself and well..like you mentioned...the mods and the tinkering...it's my love and what I do for relaxation; -Find something on the camper that aint broke, but I want to fix.

I am on my own single person, camping adventure. Well...camping trips in the warmer weather. I'm not retired. Also, I have a daughter who will always be with me. I can't say she 'enjoys' camping, but I don't care...she's coming along and riding her electric side-by side trike with me. She needs exercise and activity, besides being at home...which is her preferred activity.

GET A SMALL TRAVEL TRAILER AND KEEP GOING!

Makes me sad to read this as the subject of when to end our rv'ing life seems to come up more frequently. I've always been a realist who understands life changes, sometimes gradually, sometimes not so gradual. Doesn't make it any easier. Ours is the gradual process of aging. Most of our rv traveling friends have either quit because of health reasons or have died. Our long trips are a thing of the past but we keep going. We fight it as best we can by living a healthy lifestyle but birthdays still happen and I thank God for that.

We thought we might transition to a different way of traveling and tried a cruise to the Caribbean last year. Being in close contact with 4000 people on a small floating city was not nearly as enjoyable as the flexibility and solitude of rv travel.

Tom I will bet even if you sell your fifth wheel, you will end up getting another one.

After hurricane Ian put our Pinnacle on its side, totaling it. We didn’t have an RV at all until last May when we bought a used Montana. Still a lot of things we liked better with the Jayco.

There is something about having an RV that gets in your blood. You really really miss it when you don’t have it anymore………….

A bit sad for sure, but here’s what (in our case) happened next. Our kids (6 all together in their 20s and 30s) started to multiply (they do that you know). Pretty soon 6 became 8. Then the oldest two had 4 little ones to go with their significant others and it was 12. Then another significant other came along and we were a bakers dozen with many more on the way, God willing. The kids remembered how much fun camping was and they wanted that for their kids so then we started looking for a camper that slept 10 (or more). Too big for the old truck, had to get a new one. Also had to add a separate tent as our “cup runneth over” so to speak. Now we are camping as much as ever.

Hang in there.
