Schwintec God Failed Me

Last day of my two month trip FW looked like it was crabbing. Pulled over and found kitchen slide at rear out about five inches. Could not get slide to move in or out. Now back home and had to get it open to get fridge cleaned. I forced by banging body weight against the front and the front moved out enough to level the slide and than fully open. Ran it in and out no problem until third try. Seconds after fully closed loud pop from rear upper track. Tried putting slide out front moves and back does not but motor is running. If I push the back out several inches it than moves out fine and back in. Once fully in it will not go out until pushed a few inches. I suspect maybe worn down gear teeth or busted gib.
I will let RV Connections figure it out since thankfully I have an extended warranty. Looks like entire slide has to be removed to get to the shaft and gears
Motor is on shaft and locked in place so something popped and let’s rear of slide come out a few inches while front stays in.

Will do. I have done everything to make sure this slide would not fail. Took it to the factory where they adjusted it, replaced outriggers and installed Teflon wear pads where the rollers are. I have lubed seals and the schwintec system with what they recommend on a monthly basis. Made sure slide was always synced and never out of alignment. I just paid it off and hate to trade it in for a slimrack model.

Rock

I had a similar experience with my trailer. Made sure to baby and pamper the kitchen slide. I didn’t add the roller pads but did all the lube and maintenance. Mine skipped a gear on the track and the gear rack got all chewed up. It’s getting fixed now. Apparently the shop is replacing everything as a unit. Hopefully I’ll get it back soon. It’s been out of commission for a few months

Just have to ask. Do you lower and set the pin to a location on the front landing gear when disconnecting? Don't do it. It may cause positive frame camber (twist). My appliance slide took several operation (after auto leveling) to operate correctly. I have camped 20 times since. No problems. Thank the slim-Trek God.

Don, I think I remember you posting this elsewhere and I've been meaning to ask... Do you then simply run the front jacks without first dropping them by a few pin-holes (like the dealer taught us), and do you throw a few leggo blocks under first? I find that if I do not drop by few notches AND throw a couple of blocks under, then I would often get an "out-of-stroke" error. In these cases however, the rig would be near level by a half bubble on the carpenter's level anyway, so I always left it with no problem.

Luckily we've had no slide problems yet....

Rock, good luck and do let us know what they find.

Tom,
You do everything right and still problems. I am gonna visit RV Connections next week and see when I can get it in. I have a long list of stuff (been living in it for 16 months. 13 since the hurricane and 3 at camp before. Need to see exactly what my warranty will cover.
I just added insult to injury. Now that my RV carport has been replaced I just spent two days washing top to bottom. Have never used tv antenna and raised it to wash under it. Had to mess with slide pushing it until motor moved it and than jumped in truck. Yup u guessed it!!!!! Now I do not have a tv antenna!!!!!!!!!!! Got some new roof screw holes.

Sounds like the noise mine made too Rock.
New Schwintek installed

Sorry to hear about the antenna, but it probably needed to be re-Dicor’d anyway.

If you have to buy a new one, get the King Jack

Klassic,
Gonna replace with a fixed one will look at that. Cannot get it in the shop until late Nov. I have a laundry list of items most covered by extended warranty. This will be a two to three month shop visit I am sure. As long as they do good work I can live with a long wait.

Agree with that. Schwintec failure is not a question of whether it will fail but when. This is the reason I bought a warranty. After my laundry list and slide gets fixed I will be way way ahead.

Mine did the same thing.
Finally found a good shop.
Slide was not completely square in the hole in the RV. They didn’t just replace the mechanics into the same holes. They took much time to make everything square.
So far, so good.

Mine has always moved a tad and motors spin to resync everytime I hold the switch after extensions. So maybe it could be out or just how the motors move it. Hope to know something by Turkey day

They work ok on the smaller slides but not that kitchen slide! That was a bad idea that Jayco should have taken care of on all of the 377RLBH's they sold. Probably would have bankrupted them but they should to be responsible for the products they put out.

Maybe maintenance is the wrong approach? Too much grease causing the gears to skip/slip??
😂😂😂
Let’s hear the stories of the Schwintecs working for years with zero maintenance!

I do believe they are 300 to 1. Depending what is wrong with mine will see what I do. If they have to remove the slide and replace the the schwintec I will see if I can pay for an upgrade. 500 to 1 with steel shaft and double lower tracks and more rollers. I have seen a bunch of class c that have two lower tracks. The more rollers on the bottom the better. I think I have 5 or 6 gotta check. But there are more forward under the heavier part of the slide. Think about this, the rollers are what holds up the slide off the floor and supports most weight. Two of my rollers were digging into the floor and at factory repair they added the Teflon pads. So if u add more rollers it will slide easier and more weight will be supported. If my slide has to be removed I will make sure that the max amount of rollers are added to fill the entire floor.

Our 377RLBH has the 500 to 1's on it and it works....just barely, but it does work. We had to have the whole mechanism replaced once and so far so good. Just in case I installed a couple of screw eyes on ends of the slide so if ever doesn't go in again, I can hook some ratchet straps to it and pull it in. Just my wife and I can't push it in with out a lot of help.

Got the camper stowed away in the barn but I'm going down there today to get something I forgot (as usual). I'll shoot you a couple of pictures. Get most of my exercise going back after stuff I forgot.
