Seeking advice on 5th wheels

Greetings, all:
We are in the process of selling our Seneca (a great rig) and are considering acquiring a 5th wheel for full-timing. We like the RV lifestyle but want to get away from traveling, for medical reasons. We’ve looked at a few 5th wheels, but would appreciate your suggestions on good 5th wheels to consider. We’ve seen a Pinacle we like. We’re really not interested in a new unit, since the quality we’ve seen is very unimpressive.
Thank you.

We've had an Eagle and now the Pinnacle, and other than the stress crack on the Pinnacle, have had no major issues with either one of them.

Floor plan is a personal choice, but FWIW, we love the rear living.

Before buying the Pinnacle we looked at several other brands, including Montana and Solitude, but kept coming back to the quality and fit and finish of the Pinnacle. We do not regret our decision.

A few of the ones that robkelly names are good ones for full time and like he said the floor plan is one preference. Their are some good use ones out their probably some left over 18's.

Will the 5th wheel be placed on a permanent lot, or will you be towing the 5th wheel to different destinations?

Some models/floorpans offer more storage areas (basement size, etc.) than others, which may be a consideration for full-time "travel".

Thank you. We’ve been members since we purchased our Seneca, and very much appreciate the advice of the members.

Our 5th wheel will be planted, not traveled.

When we upgraded from a TT, we decided that a front living floor plan was our preferred option. The Pinnacle checked all our boxes of “wants” and even a few of the “nice to haves” on our list. We looked at other brands but couldn’t find anything we liked better than the Pinnacle. We are not full-timers. We prefer to travel when we want to and keep a brick and mortar as a home base. If I was going to be a full-timer, I would have considered the North Point because of the basement storage. I saw a floor plan on a North Point that made the rear a step up floor like the front. This made the entire rear end of the FW basement storage. I don’t think you would regret the quality of either the Pinnacle or North Point.

The North Point looks impressive, also.

Agreed. We like both the Pinnacle and the North Point.

Welcome to JOF. Have you considered one of the Eagle travel trailers instead of a fifth wheel? While there’s a ton of storage, The steps in a fifth wheel can be problematic with certain health issues. The interiors and floor plan on some of the travel trailers compare well with the 5ers. Too bad there isn’t a wide trailer like a Pinnacle.

I have close to 10,000 on my North Point. Vacation from Chicago to Brownsville every year (winters). It rides very well. I believe the most important part of a full timer RV is the flooring. Tonge and groove (hardwood) floor is a must. Several salesman will talk of the new engineered marine "sandwich" flooring. When spending sixty thousand on an RV, suffering through spongy flooring, I even floated a locking bamboo floor on my last RV? Nope it must start with the flooring and then we'll talk floorplans. I believe you will find the North Points and Pinnacle have the "hardwood floor".

If your unit will be planted and not moved around much, have you considered a park model or that type of style?

We have a 2015 38FLSA Pinnacle and have been very satisfied with the quality. Ours is rear-bedroom unit. We have friends who have the front bedroom Pinnacle and prefer that floor plan but we all agree that the Pinnacle is a good quality well designed 5th wheel. Good luck and safe travels

I'm partial to the Pinnacle for full timing. The extra six inches of width doesn't sound like much but having owned a North Point, which we loved, and now going to a Pinnacle, that extra 6 inches is very noticeable!

Forest River and Coachman make some good units. I would stay clear of anything Jayco.
I downsized last year from Coachman rig to a smaller Jayco and have nothing but problems. Quality and Jayco are not synonymous with each other.
Good luck on your search.

I agree
Both the Pinnacle and North Point are good choices. Just get it in writing that your warranty will not be voided when full time living!

Smile 2018 North Point

We bought a new 2018 North Point in October and are quite pleased with it. We have the floor plan that has the living area in the front and especially like it because of the forward window. We did have to compromise on the kitchen although we have a residential refrigerator. We went through a winter with it where the lowest temps were in the lower 20's and it stayed very comfortable inside. We purchased a 7 year warranty for it and so far we have had only minor problems that have been fixed free of charge....

Jayco's warranty is not voided for full time use:

The combination of premium towing gear, total luxury and full-time warranty coverage, make the 2019 Pinnacle a complete package.

Jayco warranty does not cover full time use......except for 2019 and newer Pinnacles and North Points. I am trying to talk them into including the Seismics as well.
