Shiplap

We are doing a major remodel in our 2012 24 foot travel trailer. My husband’s going to put in faux shiplap for me. He uses quarter inch plywood cut 6” strips to put on the wall. Would you recommend gluing them on or nailing them on? Thanks!

Hmmm, I've never done it so not sure how to approach it. I would imagine it needs to flex a bit. I think if you glue it, it wouldn't have as much flex as being stapled or nailed. Not too sure I'd nail it either, I don't think the walls could handle that. Maybe glue furring strips to the wall spaced, then staple the shiplap to them...I don't know. One thing's for sure, once you go..there's no turning back. It'll destroy the walls taking it off.

I am guessing you are doing an accent wall, look at glueing the firing strips to the existing wall leaving 1 inch gap from ceiling and the floor. When you attach the ship lap leave at least 3/4 of an inch gap ceiling and floor. Hide the gap with molding.

We are going to be putting the shiplap around like a chair rail. It’ll go up the walls for about 3 ft. I thought it would hold up better than just painting. I appreciate the advise. I’ll pass it on to my husband. Thanks!
