Short bed question
Looking at a new truck, 2019 f350 short bed, currently have a 2017 F250 long bed. Wondering if I'll need a slider to pull my 2018 29.5 BHOK with a Morryde pin box?
Thanks for your help.

Yes, you will unless you can be absolutely certain that you will not be taking turns sharp enough that your fifth wheel doesn't come through your rear window!

Autoslider
I would also recommend an auto slider. I have only been at this a short time, but have already seen the advantage of not having to get out to manually release the hitch. Sometimes I find myself in a situation that I need to jack the trailer for a tight turn and climbing out in the middle of the street is not a smart idea. IMO they are well worth the extra expense. You already have enough things to worry about and remember, one thing less is a plus. I also feel it’s easier to guide the trailer when backing up.

Jerlclar1, NO, it is not a requirement albeit a comfort to have the LB. Having said that, either truck requires common sense when pulling anything. More hazards surface with a SB as opposed to a LB. Same with deciding whether to go with a slider or traditional hitch. IT IS A MATTER OF PREFERENCE AND THE USE OF COMMON SENSE. I do not like the look of the LB's therefore; I purchase SB's. Again, matter of preference. Never accept the answer that you must purchase a LB. That is hollow and false. Happy Camping and safe travels and enjoy what ever truck you wish to purchase. SKDAWG

We have a ‘13 350 SB and a ‘13 351 RLDS, the hitch is a B&W puck-Mount. Discovered the hard way that I needed a slider. Contemplated for a bit over what to do and decided to keep my fixed hitch and use caution when making tight turns. As a side-note, B&W now offers a sliding puck-mount and for $1100 I could upgrade the base. I’ve elected to keep my $ and remain cautious.

I liken a slider hitch to a parachute. It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it

I commend you!! But a novice RVer that thinks they may not need a slider hitch on a short bed is going to be in trouble at some point........JMHO.

I bought the Andersen ultimate hitch and could not be happier. I have Chevy 2500 he with short box and can go past 90 with our 5th wheel. I get a lot of folks at camp grounds come over to check it out. So easy to install and remove!

MorRyde
It depends- if it's a MorRyde ORBITAL, you're good to go. That's what we have, along with a short bed, and it doesn't even come close to the cab, even at 90 degrees. Well, really, about 85 degrees is a far as I could stand twisting the axles. But it wouldn't hit at 90. The orbital is a sidewinder, which sends the pivot point 22 inches back from the kingpin.
Just today, I got myself in a situation where I had to back around a corner and up a hill, and no problems at all.

Demco Autoslider
I will add a couple more comments. You can see below what I’m driving. I am also new at this but did a lot of research before I bought anything. I also have the MORryde pin box. And as I said, picked the auto slider for peace of mind. I also saved and understood the expense before I purchased. I also have the factory 5th wheel package in the bed.
The Demco hitch I have is the 18k version for factory packages. It has shock dampening in addition to 3 different height adjustments (A lot of hitches don’t have this). The combination of the MORryde and Demco gives me an incredibly smooth ride and I never worry about my rear window. I have traveled over the Rockies this summer and put about 3500 miles on the trailer. Taken about 5 different trips. I would say I have experienced chucking maybe 10 times, and that was because of an idiot that made me brake hard or an unusual turn through a dip.
I’m not a salesperson for either company, but the combination, a bit expensive...is awesome.

Yes - you can go past 90 and I did as well a few times... But when you're past 90 and then the front of the truck goes up hill just slightly BOOM! - There goes your rear window! And your pants.
I went from Anderson to B&W slider. Now getting a long bed and going back to Anderson because I liked the hitch but just needed the room.

Ask the dealer to connect and try. I don't use a slider, but I do have to watch the hard 90 degree turns.

I have a 2019 29.5 bhfs and a 2017 f250 crew with reg bed . I use the factory puck system with the reese 16 k hitch . My Jayco does have the moryde orbital. I can get over 90 degrees and have had no problem with this setup .

I have a 2019 29.5 BHOK with Orbital Pin Box. Towed by a Silverado 2500HD 6.5 Bed. I have no issues with regular hook up. Using the pin box it is not even close to the cab, as the rotating point is moved about 18 inches back. You should have no issues at all

Happy to see the other MorRyde Orbital posts here. It seems that people think you need either a slider, an Anderson hitch, or really good luck- but the sidewinder option is rarely discussed. It works fine for us.

Short Wheel Base Hitch
I have a 2018 GMC 3500 (Single Wheel) Sierra short bed that I pull my Pinnacle with. I have been using the Pullrite SuperGlide hitches for 9 years and would not have anything else. This truck has the factory puck system so I installed a Demco Adapter Plate because it added minimal height to the hitch and the Pullrite ISR 2300 SuperGlide. Can turn 90 degrees and don't have to worry about the Pinnacle contacting the GMC.
