Is there a term for the middle length (6.5') beds if they aren't technically short beds?

I honestly thought anything < 8' was considered a short bed.

That's close enough boss, how heavy is your trailer and do you tow across any mountains?

That's a bigun! Have you towed on any mountains?if so do you know how steep the grades were and how did it do?

Not yet , but going thru pennsylvania in december



Prior to this set up , I did tow with a 5,7 foot box and was fine with a slider.
Just gotta be careful really , not ideal setup but it works.

~9500#. Haven't actually crossed any yet (only my 1st year with this trailer). I have pulled it from SE Mass up Grafton, NH and Warren, NH on diff trips, and those towns are in the 800-900' elevation range. Not overly impressive but this is New England after all, the mountains are only so big lol

I had a 30ft forest river 5w and towed with a 1/2 ton dodge with a 6' bed and never used my slider. I never put myself in a situation to have to jacknife the trailer and always keep a close eye on the cab when backing up.

I'm just concerned about towing a 40' through the mountains with a f250 shortbed. About 22,000lbs total. Gcvwr of the truck is 23500

I pulled our old 33' toy hauler thru the mountains in Colorado, South Dakota and Tennessee with my 2006 6.0 SD, there is no doubt in my mind that my 2015 6.7 SD will pull my 36FBTS thru them with ease.

TV is a '13 F350 6.7 crew cab,short bed, 2wd
Hitch is a B&W Companion that uses the factory under-bed mounts (pucks).
A sliding hitch would have been "smarter", a broken rear window underscores my bad choice.
Still have the hitch but exercise extreme caution when making tight maneuvers.
Haven't pulled in any serious mountains to date but I believe the 6.7 will handle most grades I encounter (I don't think there's a CG at the top of Pikes Peak).
Very minor differences between the 250/350 but I think an extra leaf in the spring pack is one of them.
At 40' I expect you are "close" to my weights and I think you may be over the Rear GAWR but can't say for sure. A visit to the CAT Scale will help you understand how you are loaded. I find the 6.7 very capable at towing my combination and has proved reliable to-date.

Been told that I say this a lot, but, the CAT Scale is your friend.

I don't recall a mention of diesel vs gas. For that kind of weight you will definitely need a diesel if you are towing through the mountains. The GVW is probably not any more important than the pin weight. A 1 ton diesel will serve much better IMHO.

Is your truck a SRW? I took it to the scales, mostly loaded (everything we normally take except for clothes,towels,food and toiletries) took my tailgate off and was running 6140 on the rear axle. I have firestone airbags and on board compressor. My truck is very comparible to a 350 but my weak spot is my 17"aftermarket wheels rated at 3200lbs each. I will be upgrading to 3600lb wheels. An equally equipped 350 with 18 or 20 " wheels has a rear axle load rating of 7100 lbs.
I have towed the rig around locally no faster than 65 mph, and it feels really good,just curious how the rig will feel in the mountains. Power wise,absolutely no concern,transmission does great,braking is awesome with the tow mode on, I was 21000 total on the scales. Truck front axle was 4940,rear axle 6140 trailer was 9920 on the axles I believe. The trailer total is 12000 right now.
