Short Bed truck
This is almost the max turn with my slider in forward position. I'd say 60 to 70 degrees of turn. In rear position, I can do 90 degrees.
Trailer is a Jayco 2018 Half Ton 30.5MBOK. 9600 Lbs dry weight. Truck is a 2017 F350 with 4128 Lbs of payload capacity. 2000 pounds bearing down with fifth wheel and curt 16K slider hitch. Not sure I would pull this trailer with a half ton but F350 handles it with ease.
What has been your short bed experience? Any impacts with the overhang on sharp turns?

Short Bed truck
I tow a 2017 29.5BHDS with a 2011 F350 short bed. I have a Curt 16K fixed hitch and have never needed a slider plus I prefer a lighter hitch and the space in the bed. I know a number of people with short beds who’ve ran sliders in the past but got rid of them because they never used them.
That’s a great looking setup you’ve got there.

We use a Pullrite auto slider. Never worry about hitting the truck and I am too lazy to get out of the truck to own a manual slider.

That’s a nice looking set up. I have a 2016 F350 that I’ll be pulling a 29.5 BHOK with. I went with the Andersen rail mount hitch. I wanted something light because I need to put it in and out frequently as I haul food twice a week for the local food pantry. I don’t get the 5er until next month.

This is the same with mine. With a 41' I won't be looking for that little get away in a woody Nat/State campground anymore. At 65 we lean towards the glamping aspect rather than tenting. We deserve or rather reserve the right to brag at camp fires.

Why not just stay at home instead of staring at your neighbors so close. For me, it’s still about the outdoor experience. These large trailers seem only good to full time in. Otherwise, my house is more comfortable than a 40’ trailer. Just my perspective.

I've got the same trailer on order and also going with the Anderson Hitch. Do you have a delivery date?

I've got the GM short bed and fixed hitch. About the same results. My current B&W hitch actually sits a couple inches farther aft than the one in the photo, so it's about perfect for me. I do need to be cautious though.

We tagged both sides of our SB before going to a Sidewinder hitch.

It should roll off the assembly line February 14th then on to the dealer shortly after that. Not in much of a rush though as there’s still snow on the ground.

Why judge DonnandDon? To each their own right? Who are to say what they should enjoy when they camp?

Was a serious question. I’m trying to understand the perspective. I mean they are nice trailers and I wish I could justify it. Help me justify it. Please.

It sounds like ours rigs will be on the same same assembly line. We've got campsites booked for 3/2 (shake down) and 3/8, so we will be anxious to take delivery.

Mine is 41’. Spent years in smaller campers and enjoyed our time in the more “natural” settings. But as we have “matured” we like our amenities. I can watch a ball game outside watching the tv in the outdoor kitchen, I can sip my baileys inside by the fake fireplace when it’s raining out, all without feeling claustrophobic. We travel now with four 60 pound dogs so the more space the better. We look for somewhat more upscale rv parks instead of boondocking, parks where we are not stuffed into a 20’ wide spot with no grass area.
It's each to their own.

I'm with Repacs, I have a 2012 f250 sb and tow a 2010 eagle 365bhs 40fter with a Companion fixed position hitch.haven't had any issues. You just have to be aware of your cab when backing but if you ever have to cut that sharp you're probably in too small of a space to begin with. My driveway is a perfect 90 degrees from a main 2 lane road and the drive goes up hill as you pull in. That of course puts the cap closer to the cab when I back in and I still don't have a problem. Again, you just need to stay alert and aware. I like my fixed Companion hitch. Less weight on the rear axle and more space in bed. Also fairly easy to lift out.

First, we do live in our 29.5 BHOK (35ft). Yes, it does restrict our travels a bit, but, we can still take it camping in some places. Just takes a little more leg work to determine where you can go and where you can't.
When we just used a rig for camping and vacations we had a 24ft fiver. It would go almost anywhere. Before that we had a 28ft Class A that we took camping in many national forest sites around NM and AZ. But, they were too small for full time for us.
I have seen some 40ft trailers and MH's in places (national forests) where I would not take my rig, so it really is up to you.
So, figure out what you want to do with your rig and buy accordingly.
Note that many of us use our rigs mostly to visit family in various cities around the country, not to go camping so much. Or, we don't know where we want to settle so we travel from place to place. The goal is not to escape to the woods all the time.
On topic. We also tow with a short bed and a fixed hitch. Had a slider and never used it so when we bought a new one did not get a slider. Never needed the extra angle, even in some pretty tight areas.
The thing to remember is that my close calls have not been while backing. They were in gas stations when going forward. Just watch the trailer nose and you'll be fine.

Our ‘13 F350 tows a 39’ 5th with a B&W mounted to the factory pucks. I cannot make a tight turn without contact. My insurance Co spent abt $500 replacing the back window for me to learn the limitations. I think it comes down largely to the shape of the front cap. Not wanting to make big changes I use caution when making tight turns. 3 years and still ticking.

I have a similar setup, and I would just add a note of caution, that turning radius is great on perfectly flat surfaces, but the world aint flat! I have just about dinged my cab trying to get out of a gas station when the road was crowned and the sidewalk ramp was steep. Otherwise, nice rig, safe travels!

I switched from a LB DRW to the SB SRW this winter cause I'd had enough of a dually as my DD and scraping the fat fenders when I went off on the trails. So far I've had no issues. If I need to cut tight enough to hit the cab I'll pick another spot as I don't like torquing the trailer susp that much. Only close point was getting out of the driveway where I store it beside the house, it slightly contacted the stacked Trifecta tonno due to the grade change and unlevel surface. I'm liking the SRW Chev a whole lot more than the DRW Ford.
