Angry Should We Get A New Hitch?!

Have towed this 5vr with this truck for at least 4K plus miles without incident! Made a too sharp turn at a fuel stop and POW, there goes the rear window! Now I am super self conscience of my turns. Was thinking about a new kingpin on the trailer that automatically breaks at a certain degree angle to the 5vr. Any recommendations?

We went with a Pullrite Superglide. We pull with a SB gasser and knew I would get in a tight spot one day getting gas and being new to a 5er. I would have done the same thing.

The Superglide handles tight turns with ease. The installer had it hitched to the trailer and was able to turn full 90.

Sorry for your misfortune. Hope no one was hurt. It can all be fixed. Good luck to you.

What hitch do you have in the truck? Is your truck equipped with the factory puck system?

If your TV is a short bed then why would you not have a slider hitch........asking for trouble without one.

Ouch! I don't wish this On nobody, so sorry about that but I have a B&W Companion hitch with the manual slider I don't use it but two times only to see how it work. I'm glad that I bought it though, so what hitch do you have now?

What about a reese sidewinder, it's like an extension for your kingpin?

Pullrite!! Its automatic so you don't end up "thinking" you can make it and then end up in the same situation. Had mine for years and only had 1 problem and pullrite was there to fix it and never asked any questions of when I bought or where. They just fixed it.

Yep, a automatic sliding hitch. Then you never have to remember or deal with it. It will take care of itself. Just be sure to maintain it correctly.

Yes, I have the Ford puck system. I was thinking of some kind of movable kingpin.

That sucks man, my paranoia of doing this on my short bed RAM pushed me to get the pullrite, absolutely love it. Drawbacks, weighs 8000 pounds making it live in my truck year round, and you can't adjust the height at all, so my trailer rides nose up.

Yea, get a Pullrite superglide. I've got one and will always. Look the Pullrite Hitch up on Utube and see for yourself.
Good luck

Ouch! I’ve got one too. We’re in our 5th year pulling the 5th. I did the same thing in our first year. My hitch is a B&W that uses the factory puck mounts. It’s been an excellent hitch and is easy in/out of the bed.
After my “incident” I debated changing to a slider but in the end I kept what I had. I’ve had the cab/cap close a few times since but not touching. We just can’t make a full U-turn with the wheel turned to its stop. U-turns in our cul de sac is close but doable. The Bride is my spotter and keeps a close watch on the gap when we’re making tight turns.

Before switching pin boxes I’d suggest making some turns in a parking lot to get a feel for how tight a turn you can safely make. Keep in mind that uneven ground will rock the 5th and make the gap open and close a bit.

You guys don't mention sidewinders very much. Don't they solve the same problem? We just ordered a 5th wheel with a Morryde orbital. I hope it works.

We have a 2018 28.5 RSTS with the Reese Revolution hitch in our 2015 Ram 2500 with a short box and I can have the trailer at 90 degrees without touching the cab. Love that hitch.

Get a Reese Sidewinder!
Zero maintenance and it moves your pivot point back 22 inches.
I had one installed on my 34 ft 5th wheel when I bought it new in 2014. Works like a dream!!!
Pullright hitches require a LOT of maintenance and rebuilding every 5 or so years!!!

Get a reese sidewinder!
They are awesome
Manual sliders take time:
Stop, set trailer brakes, pull hitch pins, move truck forward, put pins back in, release trailer brakes. Pain in the ass!
Auto sliders need ALOT of maintenance and a rebuild every 5 years or so.

Not to mention they are very heavy. The sidewinder is no extra weight.

I've got a bumper pull so this may be a silly question.

Any reason you don't run a headache rack ?

Sorry to see the damage. We have a Ram 2500 SB with a PullRite super auto glide. I highly recommend it. We are able to make a 90 degree turn.
Best of luck.
