Side Wall Crack Questions
Side wall Crack Questions. 2019 Pinnicle 36SSWS
Did you take it back to the Factory for the side wall to be replaced.
If you did. Was it fixed correctly the first time or did you have to return.
What exactly do they do when they replace the side wall. Is it the entire side where the crack is ?
Is the side wall crack cosmetic or is there more to it ?
Can the entire front of 5th wheel fall off due to the sidewall crack ?
What would happen if someone would not get it repaired ?
Thanks in advance. I have an appointment for Jan 03, 2022 with the factory for mine.

I think it is only cosmetic, but I am no expert. I have the crack growing from my bedroom slide corner and I just keep on trucking. Been there a couple years now. It is out of warranty so I might get the expansion joint added one day.... But until then I just keep an eye on it and keep on going.

Our 2020 Eagle 357MDOK is going back to the factory in March for the sidewall crack. I believe most are just cosmetic but I've heard of some where they reinforced the area. Are you taking your unit out yourself or is Jayco having it transported?

They did major surgery on ours at the factory. Aluminum gussets in the sidewall and steel gussets in the frame. Serious deconstructing to get at those areas. They put it back together nicely, and it's been good for 7,000 miles. They towed it up there, we picked it up. Definitely recommend the factory route.

1st time - we dropped it off and picked up. Were in the area anyway. Cracked after 300 miles of leaving (October 2019) - additional wall structure and support in the LP tank area was added.
2nd time - they picked up and brought back. Repair is now 8k+ without an issue and still looks new. (December 2019) No relief joint. Even more wall structure and more support in the LP tank area.
We were pre-pandemic so in both cases it was done in less than 20 days. No idea what it is taking now.

Thanks.. They are paying to take it out but not for me to pick it up. It will be about a 1400 mile round trip for me to get it. It starting cracking within a few months of purchase last June and is now set to go out in March of 2022 for repair.

We had ours done, to Jayco Specs, at an RV repair center in CT. As Cincinnati Kid said, it was major surgery but they did a great job and we've had no problems in the three seasons and ~7k miles since it was completed.
The place that did the work is also a Tiffin service center and they said they see this type of thing a lot.

I have a 2020 North Point, purchased in Nov 2019. By March of 2020, I noticed the stress crack at the base of the bedroom slide-out. Started researching this issue and found it was MUCH MORE COMMON than Jayco made it out to be when I first contacted them. I began looking at every 5th wheel manufactured by every company other than Jayco and ALL of them had a stress relief groove cut on the outer wall, lower/forward corner of the bedroom slide-out. I mean if I saw 15 different manufactures at the campgrounds, ALL except Jayco had the stress relief groove. So, I asked Jayco why are they only manufacturer NOT installing the stress relief groove that ALL other manufacturers are installing during the build phase. They said "it was not a common problem". I beg to disagree !! They replaced my entire driver's side wall, and did all of the additional bracing that they CLAIMED would fix the problem. Well, here I am 10 months after the wall replacement, maybe 5K miles since it has made it back from the factory, and the stress crack is back !! Currently waiting for them to answer my question as to "what is Jayco going to do different if you have already replaced the entire sidewall and added extra bracing". No response yet !!

Sidewall Crack
So my unit is now complete and being returned to my selling dealer in Massachusetts. This saga began in July 2020 when I first noticed the crack at the bottom corner of the bedroom slide. This has been an ongoing issue since 2008 according to internal Jayco paperwork that I obtained.
My unit was picked up on 09/13 at my local beaker and Jayco started repair on 09/27. The front cap was peeled back, bedroom slide removed, sidewall cut and gusset plates were welded into the structure. The filing sidewall was then replaced with two cuts above and below slide.Repainted and new decals. All resealed and inspected and being shipped home.
They have been great to deal with and I’m hoping it will return and exceed my expectations with no recurrence of the sidewall crack. Fingers crossed! I will update when I receive and inspect the repair.
Thank you,
Tom

Me Too!
Our 377RLBH developed that crack while still under warranty, they were backed up at the factory and asked if I would mind going to the dealer in Minneapolis as they had repaired several.
The dealer in Minneapolis was great! They ordered what they needed and had it waiting for us when we arrived. They did a great job and added a seam to help with the stress in that area.
Got it back in a week looking like new, of course it was pretty new. We were very happy with the repair.

It's generally cosmetic, and Jayco has started putting the relief seam on the Pinnacles at the corner of the bedroom slide. There's just not enough area there to prevent movement and it cracks the surface fiberglass as a result.
I would recommend you specify you want them to put the relief cut in - otherwise most folks seem to have a repeat a few years down the road.

They told me that they are replacing the sidewall with a new sidewall with the relief stuff built into it. I assume they are talking about what your saying.

We were just informed that this is an SLO crack and needs the whole wall replaced. My wife and I are not happy about this. Not quite sure how long this will take. Does n ot sound easy by any means.
Has anyone hear about "SLO"?
we have a 2021 Seismic 4113.

My sidewall is being replaced at the Jayco Plant. My Appointment is Jan 03, 2022 they emailed me last week and said they were running about 2 weeks behind. But I am still drooping it off on Jan. 03 because I already have a hotel for the 2nd and have taken that day off. They are also fixing several other recalls along with problems I told them about. They seem like they really care and want to help us. I think originally they said it would take 4 to 6 weeks for the repairs.
