I had the same issue on my last FW which was an Open Range. They put a cut in the side wall fiberglass and added an expansion strip. FW are going to flex in this area. If you look most FW (except Jayco) they have this short expansion joint from the factory. Why hasn’t Jayco done the same to eliminate this issue.

Jayco doesn’t have the expansion joint because they claim to be able to build their trailers without them. In fact, it’s one of their selling points

Why? When our 2015 went back for that work I didn't take anything out.

I did have a post up about problems with my leveling system. Turns out after I called LCI they said it was most likely never zeroed in to level. They sent me the owners manual and on page 17 it gave directions to zero the level. So I got my level out and leveled the RV and then followed there instructions and now the levels work every time. Why Chessico RV did not due this I do not know. They had my unit at the RV show in Tomonium, Maryland and it was level there. I guess they did it manualy. It was very easy to do.

We’re in our 2nd year of FT use and easily had 40-50 nights / year prior to going FT

We did have a leveling system failure that forced us (me) to operate the jacks by powering each jack individually using jumper wires. Thankfully a new GC 3.0 system installation was completed last Oct. More than once, I had to fully retract all jacks during camp site set-up because I lost track of how far each was extended and knew I needed to avoid twisting a frame. Prior to installing the new system, the tires would be off the ground after leveling.

Thinking this is more a random issue resulting from weak QC / poor manufacturing repeatability.
I also have a Pinnicle and I had the same problem with the leveling system lifting tire off ground and would always be out of stroke and not get level. Called LCI and they said to manually level the system and then reset the zero level. They e-mailed me the owners manuel and said directions were on page 17. I did what the book said and reset the system to tell it this is level not what it is set at. Now the system works great. They said the dealer or Jayco should have done this, but they did not.

Yup, I know of a couple of Montanas that have cracked. None of the repairs address the actual flex of the front overhang portion though. I would expect that reinforcing the wall by the slide just moves the weakness to another spot.

I can see why Jayco would deny warranty on it after 2 yrs as it's an expensive repair.

Hi Grumpy,

Maybe Jayco has changed things. I had to sign this form stating that the camper will be cleaned out, if not they will box everything and charge me $150.

We had to sign the same form and empty our 5er when it went back to the factory for the crack repair back in April

My Jayco rep at the plant sent me this response when I asked about cleaning everything out. I assumed the bedroom. frig, etc would need to be emptied. Guess I'll go back and clarify now....

Good Morning Bill,
The area that we ask to be cleaned out would be the area our guys will be working in. The slide area.

Please also keep in mind we are not responsible for lost items.

I had to sign the same form as well... my dealer said it had to be just like when I bought it...nothing personal anywhere...included pics on walls etc.....so be like starting over when we get it back....plus like all the unloading from the old one before we got the Jayco........ but I said to my better half....hey...you get to decorate it all over again....change things you might not have liked....and maybe even add more stuff.....needless to say....she was not very happy after getting everything perfect after 8 months of ownership....if it cracks again I may keep my mouth shut....isn’t that what eterna bond tape if for....lol....

I’ve been looking and it happened. I joined the crack club. We had no crack before leaving Thursday. I checked again Friday morning after 230 miles and it was about 1/2”. Came home today and checked again and it was 2”.

Any advice on how to sweet talk Jayco to help with fix? We are 6 months out of warranty.

The crack on my Pinnacle is about 1 1/2 inches long...has not really changed that I can tell.....how much larger might it get over time?....I probably do not have the mileage yet on my RV like most folks...just over 3k in 8 months...

Update. Called Jayco yesterday and was asked to send email to service. Email, with pics and details, sent to service. As of now no response. I called late today to verify email was received. They said it was and assigned to Brittany. They also asked me to contact my dealer. I have done that and am on the books for Oct.1.
The dealer has the repair facilities and says they have done a lot of these repairs across all brands.

OK, regretfully, add me to 2 more bad 5th wheel groups. Camper goes next weekend to factory for crack fix, noticed this weekend when using it that the is alot of seperation when the camper is hitched to the truck. I have attached pictures of that, will be sending those to Jayco to see what they say. Also will be contacting Lippert tomorrow, broke a leaf spring on the rear axle today. Also noticed the other leaf spring is deformed.

Ours was about that long for several weeks and ~1,000 miles, until we travelled through NY. After that trip it was about 6" long and considerably wider

Sidewall Cracks

I don't have a Jayco yet but I'm in the market for one. I had a 2015 Palomino Saber 36QBOK-7 up until it was T-boned while towing a few weeks back and totaled. I digress, but it was sent back to the factory 4 different times to fix side wall cracks. It had the small bedroom crack in the same area as everyone else here has described and then also had one at the top right of the bunkhouse slide. They ended up telling me the frame was out of camber and had lippert add a 2" square tubing to frame and then put an entire new sidewall on the trailer as well. The fix they did for the bedroom slide was the relief joint.

I towed it with an 2018 F-350 SRW and the B&W Companion Puck-Mounted Hitch. No Air Bags

Another update. Jayco is going to cover transport and costs to fix. Waiting now to get a date. They have also agreed to address other items that are not 3rd party.
My dilemma is my dealer also has the facility to fix so do they do it or send back to Jayco? I am in favor of Jayco as they have done many more of these than the dealer. Thoughts?

Send it back to Jayco. We went with a semi-local RV repair facility (vs four day round trip to IN) that specializes in Tiffin coaches, and while they finally got it right, it was on their second try. In hindsight we should have used the factory experience, and we ended up being on the road for four days anyway.
