Slide Manual Overide Procedure

Just picked up our new Jayco Superlite 305 rls earlier this week. This is our first Jayco.

I was going over the owner's manual and one thing caught my eye, the manual method of moving the slide in case of electrical malfunction. Here's the quote from the manual "Disconnect the slideout motor brake wires from the power wires. Connect a 9 volt battery harness to the motor brake wires.............." My question for you experienced Jayco owners "do you actually carry a 9 volt battery in your tool kit in case of electrical failure?"

This procedure is for the Dexter Chassis Group slide. I'm not sure our unit has this slide or the other listed in the manual, the V-tech slide. Guess I'll have to have a look or call Jayco.

If you take the access panel loose underneath and look at the slide motor/gear box, it has one 12v source that is spliced to 2 pair of wires going to the slide motor. One is for power and the other is to disable the electric brake. The smaller gauge pair is for the brake. If you need to bring the slide in manually, the instructions are not very clear.

My plan is to remove the wires that power the motor and leave the ones on that power the brake. Then when someone pushes the power button, 12v should disable the motor brake. I don't know what capacity battery would be required but I think 9 to 12v should do it.

If it ever happens, I volunteer to be the one to push the button.

Here is one picture. Kinda of hard to see the wires. Big wires are motor, small are brake.
