Slide Topper Installation

I have a 2015 Jayco Pinacle 38FLSA with 5 slides. It did not come with factory installed slide toppers. I have purchase Solera brand toppers. I noticed in the installation instructions the brackets are installed below the slide flange but in some pictures I have seen of factory installed toppers, the bracket appears to be installed on the flange. I think the factory installed ones are Carefree. Has anyone installed the Solera brand on my application and if so how were they installed.

Do not install them below the flange. In time the force from the brackets will pull them out. On my 2019 Eagle, the factory mounted 2 slides on the flange and 1 slide below the flange. The brackets pulled the screws out of the fiberglass as it has no support behind it. Another good size warranty claim was processed for this mistake. Your directions should clearly state that you need to have a support to screw into behind the fiberglass. If you do have a brace, you can. On the 2019 the brace runs behind the flange.
Hope this helps.

I would contact JAYCO. I am 99% sure that on our 2015 they were below the flange.

Ditto. I emailed them making sure ours has the proper backing to install them in our three slides and they answered me the next day. Now where's that stimulus check so I can get them ordered?

Thanks. I sent the requested information to Jayco using the link you provided. I appreciate your help. I have a few other things I want to improve as well and I may have questions. This site is a great resource.

From what I have read some complain their dealer mounted them too flat so water pools up on them. I will make sure ours are at a slight angle when I install them. I found this pic of a Jayco North Point and both toppers are mounted below the flange...

Thanks. I agree it would be better to have the increased slope. I appreciate the pictures.

I don't see how either of those could be mounted on the flange. They would tear themselves up from wind flapping while traveling.

You had me curious, so did a quick search and found this 2019 Eagle and yep, mounted on the flange. Looks like it may be a larger flange than previous years but hard to tell...

Yet here is the larger slide of the same fiver on the opposite side, and it is under the flange. Go figure....

That is how they mounted mine on the same slide. That is the one that pulled out of the fiberglass and destroyed the topper. Maybe Jayco needs to train the installers at the factory on how to mount the brackets. The 2020 has the brackets already mounted to all flanges. Just mounting the brackets into 1/8” thick fiberglass side wall will not hold anything.

Are the flanges the same size? The driver's side look wider, but it could be the picture.

Did they originally install yours on the flange like the first 2019 I posted above?

I emailed them about ours and all they said the backing is there since you could order toppers from the factory in my year, 2017. Didn't think to ask them were exactly to mount them. But pretty sure under the flange is a safe bet.

Yes they mounted the LH side on the flange which is correct. They mounted the RH side below the flange on the side wall. My dealer told me he has replaced a couple other Eagles which pulled out of the side wall. Flanges are the exact same on all slides. I will try to post a couple of pictures

SeventyGTX,

I know on my 2017 EagleHT 27.5RKDS, the flange on the bedroom slide was 6" wide whereas the flange on the living area slide was 4" wide. This extra 2" can be a factor on placement of the topper material track.

I had one bracket start to pull out on the living area slide. Upon further investigation, I found that the predrilled holes on the Solera bracket(s) were not drilled to "match" the Jayco backer. I had to drill new holes in the bracket(s) … if I remember correctly, the new holes were about 1/4" above the predrilled holes.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to drill a small "test" hole to ensure you are getting into the backer.
