As I said before your dealer should be calling JAYCO when the unit is at their shop. That is the only way to properly diagnose or fix it.

I really don't think your dealer has a clue as to how to fix anything.

Just my 2 cents

LegalEagle, I have been following this thread. This slide room system is built by Lippert. It is one of the oldest systems that they have built from the beginning. It is called a through frame flush floor system.

When the room is fully extended, the floor of the room slides down into the main floor of the unit. This is called a "ramp". It is a tray or, trough that is under the slide room floor that runs from front to back the full length of that slide room.

We all know how scrap construction material can end up in the mist confounded places of these RV's. Has anyone looked under the room inside this ramp to see if there is a foreign object laying in there? It will not ever come out on it's own.

To eliminate any doubt, I would retract the room about a foot. At that point, someone can actually push "out" at the top of the room to lift the floor higher, while someone can take a flashlight and look into the ramp from one end to the other. If something is laying in the ramp, I'd use a Swiffer duster to drag it out. It doesn't take anything very big to mess up the operation of the slide room.

Just a thought.

Dale,
Each time I have taken the unit in to have this fixed, they actually do fix it, but only temporarily. A few times it took one or two slide outs to start the problem over again. This last time, I checked the slide while at the dealer after they repaired it. It went out flush. I made the drive home (90 miles) and opened it for guests to stay in during the holidays, and it didn't extend all the way like it did at the dealer. So something in travel is obviously bringing the condition on.

OK. Then, it most likely is a simple mechanical issue. This system is not "rocket science". I believe it was BigJohnD who said something about knowing where you where and he'd go look at it himself. He did a great job of taking those pictures, by-the-way! Well, I'm with him on that. For some reason, as the room is moving out, it is jumping timing (as we used to call it) or, the spur gear in the gear pack assembly has teeth broken off. It would only take one or two teeth missing to cause this kind of grief. If, the teeth are all there then, it is a shim issue. Without a flashlight and knowing exactly where to look, you wouldn't see it.

Update. I have now sent a total of 7 emails to Jayco about my slide issue. They appeared not to read most of them in full, just kept telling me to return it to dealer. Jayco appeared to ignore me when I told them the dealer has admitted they don't know what to do next, and so I was asking them to call and speak to the dealer before I incur the cost of taking it back there yet again. After the service rep did not call the dealer, I asked to speak to the service rep's supervisor. That got him to call the dealer and they discussed a plan of action. I took it back earlier this week. They removed the slide gear and reset it. It worked fine at the dealer. I drove it home this morning. As I extended the slide, it made several popping noises, acted like it was hung up for a second, then rolled out. Again, leaving the gap at the bottom of the slide closest to the door. I sent the dealer another picture, and have emailed Jayco Service yet again. At this point, I can only conclude my slide mechanism is defective and needs replacing.

Perhaps if the dealership had to drive to your location and absorb the costs of that trip and tow your unit back to their location then return it to you after repairs are actually made, they would have more incentive to get a Jayco factory rep involved in the process. You are a much more patient and understanding person than I am.

LegalEagle, from your last description, I'm 90% convinced that it is simply "jumping timing"! The technician at the dealer is missing something very simple. And, it will be an easy fix without a whole new system. That is the way they are dusigned and built.

LegalEagle, Have you talked to the owner of the dealership? If the dealer you are working with is who I think it is, they have an A+ BBB rating. However on their Facebook page they do have a couple of negative reviews when it comes to service. You say you have emailed Jayco several times. Have you called them? Not that you should have to. The dealer should be making the contacts to Jayco. One question I would have for Jayco is "where can I get this problem resolved, because the dealer I have been working with can't make it happen." I also would consider calling Lieppert customer service for their thoughts. So far this thread is by far the worst I have seen as far as getting an issue resolved.

I am concerned because I have a 323lkts on order. However, this slide mechanism has been used on hundreds if not thousands of RV's.

I will be having a close ear to this thread. Best of luck.

And the trouble continues. Jayco finally coordinated with the dealer and suggested a plan. They told the dealer to check the ram for potentially missing teeth, and then the motor. The dealer did as they said, and told me when I picked it up that what Jayco required them to do was not going to make a bit of difference. And it didn't. Upon arrival home, the slide was 1/2 inch away from the wall. I sent Jayco pictures. Their "customer service" told me this was not an issue, and it was bascially fine as it was. I told them it will continue to get worse. They said as long as the slide is sealing, they aren't doing anything else. I took the rv on a trip to Austin this weekend, and got back today. The slide is now 3/4 inches away from the wall, and will continue to move further away as time goes on, as it's done every time. I sent Jayco new pictures, and asked to speak to the manager over customer service. The person who has been corresponding with me has been unhelpful, and even dismissive of my concerns. At this point, I am ready to turn it back in if they can't fix it.

As I have said before, these Lippert systems are not rocket science. There is something very simple right in front of their faces they are not seeing because, they are making it harder than it really is!

Aggravating I know, but if a tech can't fix that, he / she needs to find another line of work. As dalengail said, very simple system. Motor, gear box, actuator, 2 gear packs / rollers, drive shaft between gear packs, then rails. That's it. Then of course the adjustments at the end of the rails.

If I didn't know any better, I'd swear some of the people you've dealt with used to work for Forest River. Sounds like some of them I've dealt with. Slide opening not even square, no problem, normal. Whole side wall leaning inward / out of square, no problem, just how they're built. Slide leaks, nothing we can do. I've heard all kinds of stupid crap.

Another update. I took another trip this weekend, and upon arrival home, the gap on the slide is now an inch and 1/8th from the inside wall. It grows larger with every trip, from a beginning of approximately 1/2 inch to now over an inch. The largest it has gotten before I could get it back for service is about 1 and 3/4 inch. My dealer has been upfront for several months, saying they have never encountered this kind of problem, and need Jayco's assistance to find out what is wrong. However, the Jayco Service Manager who was assigned my case told me, and I quote, "This is not an issue because the slide still seals." I was shocked to hear them say that a problem that gets larger with every trip, and leaves the inside floor unlevel, and simply does not work as it was engineered to work, is "not an issue." I immediately requested he not review my case anymore and to speak with his supervisor. I finally received a response from the supervisor after 2 weeks. He has finally concurred with me that the entire slide mechanism may need to be replaced. I take it back, for the 7th time, to the dealer today.
