Spring Upgrade, Shock Mod

I finally got the time this weekend to finish my upgrade and shock mod. I decided to do this based on the spring failure we experienced last trip out.

Original supplied equipment was a 6 leaf 3,500# springs. New upgrade are 7 leaf 4K springs at 24 7/8 eye to eye. I did the wet bolt upgrade already so I used the existing bolts to mount the new springs.

The shocks are a bolt on kit from Lippert and went very easy. The kit supplied everything you need to do the upgrade. My tanks were not close to the locations for the shock tower mounts.

Eager to see what it does this weekend when we finally get back to camping.

Looks good.

What did you do to ensure alignment?

I measured from the bottom edge of the trailer front and back to the front and back of each tire. There is very little play in the axle mounts since the bolts on each spring lock into the axle mount holes.

You can only get about 1/16 of an inch play in either direction at most.

I am not going to oversell this, but here is what I noticed on a short 20 mile run this AM.

My chucking was less after started, meaning that what use to go 2-3 cycles now is over after 1. This is because the shocks slowed the see saw effect.

Bumps seem a little better overall.

Overall I think it's an improvement and a longer haul on some interstates will be the best test for performance. Once I do that in a few weeks I'll advise further.

Oh and it was towing straight so my alignment is good.
