I would recommend the Progressive Industries unit. I had one take a huge spike during a thunderstorm a few weeks back. It toasted the Progressive Industries unit but nothing in my trailer was harmed. I purchased another one immediately afterward.

We use the Progressive Industries. Went through a major storm over Memorial Day weekend without an issue.

You will be a lot better off with a Electrical Management System.

Progressive Industries
EMS-PT50X for portable
EMS-HW50C for hardwired

This is what we use. Cost a little more, though, but we’re comfortable with it.

I have had a Progressive EMS (PT50C and then later PT50X) hanging around outside my rig in various campgrounds for the past 8 years full time and not one of them has ever grown legs. I have never even heard of one growing legs except on various forums and then only the concern, not that it actually ever happened. I do keep a chain around mine with a lock, but I think the theft thing is over blown. I have never even talked to anyone who knows someone who has ever heard of one growing legs.

I will never ever plug in anywhere including my home base with my PT50X inline first. I actually have two of them so I will still be protected if the primary one ever has to go back to the factory for repair/replacement.

Mine has stayed with us for 3-4 years. It has a tab that can be padlocked to the power pedestal. Mine is plugged in, then the padlock is added to lock the closed pedestal door or to the tab on the cord.

I have never worried about it from then on.

The Progressive Industries EMS-LCH W30 has saved my bacon several times. I can't leave home without it or leave it hanging on a campground pedestal (not to mention growing legs) because its hardwired.
