Surge Protection
If I hard wire 50 amp surge protection into my 5th wheel, are there any adverse ramifications? For example, if in a site with only 30 amps service available, will this cause any problems? I would suppose the protection would only apply to the one line drawing the 30 amps. Not sure if I am explaining myself properly but don't want to add any unforeseen circumstances by adding hard wire surge protection.

It will work fine. I suggest a high quality surge suppressor.

I plan on hard wiring my surge suppression once I get my trailer. It will be about 1/3 of the cost and I won't have to Fiddle with it when hooking up. Just make sure you get a good one, look at the surge amps and most importantly the amount of joules it can handle. The higher the joules means it can dissapate more energy.

We have a surge guard 50 hard wired on our Pinnacle and we had one on our motorhome. It is the best insurance that you can have. It saved us a couple of times. Once, the voltage at a Fairgrounds that we were camping at was 139 volts! The surge guard shut it down and would not let it in. It also has a time delay so that if the power is blinking it won't let the compressor in the air conditioner damage itself.

I have a Progressive Industries 50amp suppressor and they claim it still offers the same protection when plugged into 30amp service. Mine is the hard-wired with remote display and while I can't say that it's ever saved my bacon I sleep better knowing I have one.

I use a 50a Progressive and adapt its input to 30a all the time.
Just remember to keep it vertical per instructions when in use.

I would suggest looking at Progressive's EMS system. It will provide surge protection as well as protecting against other power issues such as low voltage. Here is link. http://www.progressiveindustries.net/ems_hw50c.htm. The device is more expensive but worth it in my opinion.

Might want to pick up a 30A to 50A dog-bone adapter, just in case (as you said) you stay at a CG that doesn't have 50A service.
My TT uses 30A. I went with a post mounted (portable) 30A surge protector, and have a 50A to 30A dog-bone in case the CG 30A plug looks "iffy".

Update to surge protection
Just wanted to thank everyone for all the input. Just had the Surge Guard 50 AMP unit hard wired into our Eagle 33.5RETS. Took less than two hours to complete and that also included the optional Voltage Monitor. Team RV Inc did an excellent job and we are really pleased.
Again, thanks to all who contributed to this post.

Thanks to all who posted. I thought I replied to this but it must be in cyber space. Had the 50 amp Surge Guard hard wired in this week along with the optional voltage monitor. Could not be happier. Shows the load on line one or line two, amps and voltage and any faults.

Hard Wired Surge Protection
My goodness, I thought I have replied to everyone's posts twice now but have no idea where it is going. I just wanted to thank everyone for their input. Just had our Surge Guard 50 amp surge protector wired in and also the optional monitor display. Team RV Inc did a great job on the installation and the price was very competitive. All the parts and labor were less than $600 and took a couple hours to complete. We waited and looked over all the new models while they completed the task.
Thanks again to everyone for their comments. What a great forum for Jayco Owners!
