By your description, our chair legs are slightly different, but we wanted to protect the floor from them also. We started by wrapping a 6 inch square piece of anti-slip sheet around each foot, and tying a string around the chair leg to hold it on. The end of the chair leg was shaped such that these stayed on, but over the course of a summer of travel, did wear thru. Next we bought a length of rubberized floor runner from a hardware store. This was placed under each chair and did last better. We still use this. For home use (may apply also) we found in Walmart, a set of chair foot covers that look like half-size tennis balls. These have an x-cut in them where you slide them over the leg end.
