Tekonsha brake controller

My controller seems like it is a little graby , it is adjusted to about 25 percent. I noticed that the manual slide when squeezed fully does just about no braking at all and when squeezed while braking it overrides the normal braking completely
. Does this sound correct ?

Ok, go back through the adjustment procedure. Hook up your trailer and set both adjustment wheels on the controller to the full on position (counter clockwise). You should have a red led when you apply the brakes. While holding the brake pedal, rotate the left side level wheel back toward you clockwise until you see the led turn orange to green. Rotate back until you have a solid orange color.

Now lower the right side gain wheel back toward you clockwise approx half way. Take the trailer down the road at approximately 25 mph and hit the manual slider you should feel the trailer brakes engage. Adjust the gain so that they are just about at lockup with the manual slider.

Once this procedure is done, you should be ready to go. I have 2 of these controllers in 2 different trucks. They work great once adjusted. If you go through the setup and you are still having an issue, we can try and diagnose further.

Welcome. I think that you will find that your level adjustment (left wheel) is too high (too far forward). That would give you the grabbing feeling upon pedal application. The manual slider then wouldn't work as well as needed with the gain set so low on the right wheel.

I think your right, my unit was dealer installed ( first electric brake controller for me) they didn't give me any instuction sheet. Just told me to adjust the dial on the right side of the controller. Up until now I didn't know there was a dial on the left. I downloaded the instructions. Thanks
