thetford RV tote parts help

I have the Thetford SmartTote - not sure on the model nor size, but it is about 4 years old and looks like the pic that I attached.

I am trying to find parts for it, it seems that the hose is a 1 piece unit and leaking somewhere on the bottom side. Any clues where I can only find the hose? I looked for thetford tote parts, but lead me down to a long, dark hole, and I surely don't want a $150 tank when the hose is bad.

any thoughts, please reply.

thanks

I had one just like that, the 30 gallon I tote I believe. The hose finally got brittle and cracked and started leaking. I used a section of regular waste hose to replace it but it was very difficult.

The wire coil in the original hose turned the opposite direction of the wire coil in a standard RV waste hose. And the hose fitting on the tote was threaded for the backwards coil. It was really difficult to force the replacement onto the tank, but I made it work.

Then it started leaking again, or so I thought. I finally figured out the the tank itself had cracked underneath the axle rod that the wheel attaches to.

I tried all kinds of fixes. I gooped it up with epoxy, and silicone, and neither worked. I finally decided to finish out the season in Quartzsite, putting up with that slow, nasty leak.

The last time I used it to dump, I drove it over to the dumpsters and tossed it in.

If you flip the tank over and lay it upside down, there's a plastic plate that can be removed. Three screws, I think. Take it off and inspect the hose. The axle can be popped out of the molded grooves in the bottom of the tank to inspect for a cracked tank. I think I used a large screwdriver to pop it out.

Good luck. I hope it's just a bad hose.

Thanks for the reply SmokerBill. Yes, I took the plate off and determined the best that I could that it was the hose, but I didn't check beyond that. Yes, looking at the hose it didn't seem easy to just splice in a new section.

I will have to do some more searching to be sure it's the hose, I guess.

Maybe you could remove the hose and trim it off up to the leak, then replace it. Unless that would make it too short.

NP... It looks like that site has most of the replacement parts for your tote so just use that other site to match up the part numbers.
