Thinking about selling

I have a 2016 Eagle HT 29.5 BHDS and I'm thinking about selling. I am towing it with a 2016 Ram 2500 4x4 and had to put a 4 inch lift on my FW in order for it to tow somewhat level. Now the camper bouncing and wiggling is much worse while camping. The out door kitchen was almost too tall to begin with and now it is pretty much useless unless I bring along a wide step stool. The first step into the FW is way too high and I keep tripping on it. Finally, the wheels look silly with so much gap between the tire and the fenders. I towed this with a 2006 Duramax 4x4 Crew (which had the same bed height as a 2017 F-150) and the FW towed nose high with that truck also.

I'm 41 and consider myself in pretty good shape so its not a physical problem, just an annoyance after spending so much $$$ for this set up. Knowing this, I never would've bought it. Sorry Jacyo, this was a design flaw or lack of foresight.

Rant over.

I saw a parked F-250 or F-350 with an older (maybe 60's or 70's) fifth wheel. I wish I could have stopped to take a photo. The fifth wheels rear end was almost dragging on the ground. I thought how silly it was to tow something like this.

I unfortunately don't know anything about fifth wheels but is there maybe not a king pin that could sit lower in your truck that might help with the height while towing?

Also what about adding those more ride steps for the entry?

I can't think of a better solution other than a step stool for accessing the outdoor kitchen

Well that’s a bummer. I have the 2018 version with 15 inch wheels hooked up to a 2015 GMC 2500 2wd. I have 1 inch drop shackles on the GMC and the trailer is perfectly level.

The outdoor kitchen on this particular unit is perfect height when it is in the stock configuration. Of all the units we looked at, this kitchen was the best set up height wise.

I don’t think this is a matter of the trailer being too low...I think trucks are getting too tall.

I test drove the new Super Duty and they are very high off the ground, at least to this old guy. But thats the look people want now.

Very sorry to hear you are having trouble with your combination. We are very happy with our current set up.

We’ve had an 03’, 07’ and 13’ F-350 and each one has gotten taller. Wish they’d leave well enough alone. My 03-07 were dead level. Absolutely perfect towing set up. I don’t tow a fifth wheel now, but can sympathize and know what you’re dealing with. Everything is just getting too tall not allowing enough bed clearance. Heck I had almost a foot bed clearance on my 2007.

Yep, don't know why they insist on making them taller.

I lucked out, my '15 F250 was perfect with my 2017 Eagle HT 27.5 rlts. I was so nervous reading all of these too tall stories before mine arrived. I do have a Curt Q16 and it is adjusted all the way down. I am only 1.5" difference from the front to back of my 5th wheel, and my F250 is stock.

Over the winter I picked up a '14 F350 4x4, I haven't had a chance to hook up the 5th wheel yet but will be taking it out of storage this weekend. I had an '06 F150 that pulled my 23.5RBS just fine but upgraded to a F350 for other uses. Will have to see what modifications I need to do once I get it hooked up. Hoping for the best but expecting the worst.

Just hopped in a 2018 F-250 CCLB yesterday for the first time - a friend's rental. WOW! They are very high stock! I love it! But for fifth wheel towing I totally feel your pain. That's one of the reasons I think I will likely stick to large bumper pulls. Lifted trucks with big tires just don't work well with fifth wheels unfortunately. I wonder if the manufacturers could design a low profile bed with a low hitch, or even easily removable bed sides/tailgate?

I've already had to replace the rear wall because of delamination. I've had several other smaller problems, but it being so high up in the air bothers me. I really wish I still had one of my previous travel trailers. My dealer laughed at me when he first saw my fifth wheel lifted. Then I saw him a few months later and said he knew of at least 5 others that had done the same thing. My lesson learned is, hook it up to my truck level and then we'll talk about the purchase.
